Do you? And if not what would you like to be called?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Horton · 11/05/2010 20:19

Oh, that's lovely, thank you SMTB. That's my favourite colour, actually.

SoMuchToBits · 11/05/2010 19:04

Lucy is a ruby red (to me) but may be something quite different to other synaesthetes.

scottishmummy · 11/05/2010 19:02

aye of course.

yama · 11/05/2010 18:45

No, I've never really identified with my name.

I always wanted to be called Louise (which was what my Mum wanted to call me).

differentID · 11/05/2010 18:44

I'm a Maria. I thought it was ok when I was a child, hated it with a passion as a teenager due to all the teasing I had and as an adult have decided it's rather pretty after all!
I loathe and abhor my middle anme and I really don't know why my parents had to give me a poxy French middle name when the English version is more than acceptable.

peasandbeans · 11/05/2010 18:37

Yes, I love my name. When my parents chose it it was very unfashionable, and they had lots of comments saying that they had made a bad choice. Now it is becoming quite popular, which is not surprising because it is a beautiful name.

VengefulKitty · 11/05/2010 18:27

I hated mine as a child although I was the only one through all my school years so there was no confusing who was being yelled at!

Now I love my name. It is a normal, old name, but not one that is popular by any means. I think popularity has grown in recent years, but you still don't hear too many being called.

Also, there are many nicknames for my name, but no one has ever attempted to shorten it in my case apart from XP's!

IngridFletcher · 11/05/2010 18:26

No I don't. It is very 'of the moment' and that moment was about 10 years after I was born and is now long gone. I suppose it might make me seem younger but my face would soon give me away.

TattyCatty · 11/05/2010 18:21

I've always liked both of my names - very classic. They've both been mentionned by people wishing they had been called them!

Horton · 11/05/2010 18:20

I like all three of my names, but I do slightly wish I'd been called something a bit more unusual. I'm a Lucy and it's a good classic non-fashiony name but you know, it's a bit boring sometimes. I am intrigued by the colours. What colour is Lucy?

crumpette · 11/05/2010 18:17

I'd like to be something less bland, more vibrant, I like names ending in 'a'

crumpette · 11/05/2010 18:15

I hate my name but I like my middle name, sadly it's just too difficult to change first name so I'm stuck with it. Very 70s/80s, bleugh

draggedthroughahedgebackwards · 11/05/2010 18:15

Don't like my name. I always think it is a bit tory wife and I should be wearing a twin set, pearls, and an alice band.

don't know what I would prefer to be instead. I wanted to be Florence or Cheryl when I was little

BakewellTarts · 11/05/2010 18:14

Yes I love it as an adult. Classic but not that usual. As a child I hated it. Too grown up for a little girl and was a disaster coupled with my maiden name so teased about it. Funnily enough my family were very surprised when I took DHs name on marriage I don't think they ever realised what they had saddled me with.

Moleyisvotinggreen · 11/05/2010 18:11

I'm Clare and I hate it.

For a start, people assume that I was born in the 70s, when I was born in the late 80s. Our class teacher numbered the Clares in order of birthday as there were 5 of us. I also hate having to spell it all the time as there are so many different ways!

Keep thinking about adding on another first name, but don't want to upset my Mum.

TheSteelFairy2 · 11/05/2010 18:10

I think so.

There certainly isn't many of us about, though not really unusual. Think it was a fairly out of date name when I was named it so not many of my generation.

RedZora · 11/05/2010 18:10

No, i hate my name it is along the lines of Rain, Rainbow or Tree it makes it obvious my parents were hippies and probably stoned when they chose it. I would like to be called somthing ordinary and boring like Jane.

iloveasylumseekers · 11/05/2010 18:07

I don't dislike it, but I'd rather have had a more traditional name. Mine's an OT biblical name that was popular in the 70s.

I'd have preferred Elizabeth or Katherine.

AuntieMaggie · 11/05/2010 18:06

love my name - it's jewish and people often think it's made up even though it's in the bible!

alicatte · 11/05/2010 18:06

Not really - it dates me, its one of those names like Ethel or Hilda which will date me exactly when I am older (should that be even older)

I'd like to be called Elizabeth or Catherine - a name that will NEVER date.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 11/05/2010 18:05

I'm a twenty something EMILY - I detest my name, keep meaning to change it to Emma, why oh why could my parents not just call em Emma, its plain, simple, easy to live with, and most importantly for an extreme tomboy its not so flouncy. There were no other Emily's at my school, there was just me and Emily Bishop aka corrie, and i am, and always have been mortified by name.

Psammead · 11/05/2010 18:04

That's so interesting! Thanks

SoMuchToBits · 11/05/2010 18:04

Ah well, I think Victoria is yellow/brown. So I wouldn't choose it myself, as I'm not keen on those colours. But I know that people with synaesthesia don't all have the same set of colours for letters/words, so yours would undoubtedly be different.

MintyMoo · 11/05/2010 18:01

I'm a Lowri, I like it, it's unusual. But thanks to Lowri Turner no-one can pronounce it, I love having an unusual name but it would be nice if people would make the effort to learn to pronounce it, it only has two syllables - Low (as in high/low) ree. Simples!!! Plus the spellings are a nightmare. I used to want to be called Rosie at primary school.

Psammead · 11/05/2010 18:00

I love the synaesthesia view of those names!

SoMuchToBits what colour is Victoria? I'd go with blue, personally - what do you think?
