...and I don't even know if it is a boy, but this is the only name I have really loved over the last month of so.

So, names we have for a boy are:

Christian (nn Kit)
Hector
Dashiell (nn Dash)
Isaac (nn Ike or Zac)... I love this but am worried that it's too popular now - and yes, I do care about that sort of thing I'm afraid...

with either Alexander or Benjamin for middle name.

And girls names:

Valentina (nn Nina)
Marianne (nn Annie, but would probably call her Marianne mostly)
Constance (nn Connie, which I love - much more than I like Constance, but I'm of the long formal name variety, so would never christen her Connie, IYSWIM)

with middle name Lily, probably.

Already have a 14 mo DD who is Penelope Lucy (Pen / Penny / Penpots for short).

Last name is Reed.

What would you go for, for boy or girl?

Promise I won't do a million of these threads in the last month, so do give me some feedback!

Thanks.

Marianne (nn Annie) is lovely and quite unusually without being poncy (Valentina=a bit poncy).

I know a Dashiell and he us in prison so that puts me off. Hector is great but shortened to Hec it isn't. Isaac v v popular as you say. I like Christian nn Kit but it does remind me if the Eastenders character.

Love Dashiell and Marianne and don't dislike any of the others but Christian would be my least favourite tbh

Boobz · 11/05/2010 20:24

Hmmmm.

I don't like Christian... to me it just suggests you are very religious (So would be ok if you are!)

Christopher I like, and Kit is a fab nn.

Chris is equally likely to get used for Christian as for Christopher - I think you just need to make it clear his nn is Kit not Chris.

Love Dashiell, nn Dash - but won't be so great if he turns out to be a bit slow moving.

Love Marianne.

Not so keen on your others.

daisyj · 11/05/2010 20:07

Love Dash (very, err, dashing). Constance (Connie) gorgeous. Like Valentina (Nina). Isaac (Zac) nice, but tis very popular, as you say.

Not keen on Hector, unless you actually are Scottish.

Kit is lovely, although don't really like Christian. Prefer it as nn for Christopher.

Boobz · 11/05/2010 20:04

Ack - there is no consensus!

Surely Christians are not wet?! Kits certainly aren't IMO...

Dashiell is DH's favourite... I thought it might be a tad poncey?

Ugh, this is so not helping!

Love Christian/Kit.
LOVE Hector.
Don't like Dashiell at all as it sounds a bit 'try hard' and I think Dash is that silly, whizzy little boy in The Incredibles, if that matters to you!
I like Isaac but not Zak or Ike.

Marianne is fabbo, then Constance.

LynetteScavo · 11/05/2010 19:02

Hector and constance.

cloelia · 11/05/2010 18:59

I really love your choices of names. Probably least like Isaac (just not very exciting, for my money) and most like Dashiell or Kit (I have a nephew Kit); love all three girls' names and think Marianne probably goes best with your Penny.

AndieWalsh · 11/05/2010 16:49

Christian is my least favourite of your boy's names. It's dullsville. Christians are wet.

Dashiell is super cool . Love Dash. Hector is quite funky. Isaac is very common, but a lovely name.

Your girls names are all fabulous. Marianne by a whisker for me.

Angela82 · 11/05/2010 16:49

Christian and Constance

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/05/2010 16:48

Christian and Marianne (could have nn Nan)

MunchkinsMumof2 · 11/05/2010 16:34

My South American friend is called Vale pronounced as Valet (parking) Valay, very pretty!

Boobz · 11/05/2010 16:31

Oooo thanks for all the responses. Christian (Kit) and Valentina are my faves at the moment, but had never though of Vale as a nn - reminds me of Vicky Vale from Batman.. COuldn't use Vali as a nn, as I am Ali, and that would be a bit silly, Ali and daughter Vali...

I prefer Christopher to Christian and I like Marianne

oceryo · 11/05/2010 16:23

How about just Nina?

scoobychocolate · 11/05/2010 16:05

I really like the sound of valentina but wouldnt use nina as a nn

henry37 · 11/05/2010 15:55

i love christian from your girls list prefer constance although not over keen.

mathanxiety · 11/05/2010 15:44

Christian (Kit) and Valentina (Nina).

I agree with LaDiDaDi's comments too.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 11/05/2010 14:57

christian constance valentina nn vale

mrsSmurf · 11/05/2010 14:51

Isaac Alexander sounds nice. Out of your girls names I like constance.

LadyCressida · 11/05/2010 13:54

Christian and Constance. Both really lovely!

LaDiDaDi · 11/05/2010 13:53

Christian and Valentina.

Like all of your boys names tbh.

Think that Nina (as a nn for Valentina) goes best with Penny; Connie too much the same and Marianne just doesn't sit well with Penny style wise imo. Having said that again, I like them all individually iyswim.

Rockbird · 11/05/2010 13:49

Christian is lovely and not that widely used at the mo. Kit and Chris both good nn

I love Valentina as well. I know a 6yo Valentina nn Vali
