Have finally got our boys name list down to two (the only two that we can both even remotely agree on.)
I'm looking for something unusual DH wants traditional. However, alot of traditional names are very popular and this is not what I want.

Which do you like best out of
Jonah Matthew
Dominic Matthew

DH prefers Jonah I prefer Dominic.
Siblings are Patrick and William.

DH's fist choice of name is George but this is my dad's name, his second choice was Harry but this is his brother in law's name. I want to avoid family names. I fear that between my daft mother and his daft sister we will never hear the end of it. They will tell everyone that the child was named after them and this is definatley not the case. Don't want the hassle of explaining to everyone.

Apologies for babbling on, I'd appreciate your thoughts though.

Another vote for Dominic. Jonah just means bad luck to me! (I prefer Matthew for the first name)

AdasMum · 11/05/2010 16:11

Jonah

henry37 · 11/05/2010 16:06

dominic

MrsToffeeCrisp · 11/05/2010 16:05

LOve Dominic. Was on my list for DS3 but DH vetoed it as he works with someone called that!

Psammead · 11/05/2010 16:00

Dominic - for certain.

pinkgrapefruitjuice · 11/05/2010 15:59

I think Dominic and Jonah are both fantastic sorry, no help here. Who named the other two was it mostly you or mostly your DH?

LaDiDaDi · 11/05/2010 14:02

Dominic, deffo.

persephoneplum · 11/05/2010 14:01

Dominic by a long shot.

wahwahwah · 11/05/2010 13:51

George
I don't like the other 2. But then it doesn't matter what I like!

Rockbird · 11/05/2010 13:50

Dominic. It's on my list but DH not keen on Dom.

jaabaar · 11/05/2010 13:48

Dominic is a very nice and strong name.
I always checked out if the name is lucky first. That is why I slightly changed the name of my baby by adding and H.

thumbwitch · 11/05/2010 13:44

Dominic here too.

biscuitbear · 11/05/2010 13:40

Dominic.

In Hebrew, the name Jonah means - Dove. In the Bible, the prophet Jonah was swallowed by a whale after God caused his ship to sink and then was tossed up onto dry land after three days and nights. Sailors traditionally use the name Jonah to personify someone who brings bad luck.

Maybe if you want him to grew up to be a sailor he should be called Dominic? Not too bad if he wants to be a pilot - should be able to find dry land

Mimi1977 · 11/05/2010 13:23

Dominic definately! Agree with the family names. My DH wanted a boy called Freddie - both our grandads were called this but I know his mum would be telling everyone he was named after her dad and my poor grandad would be forgotten. Can just be too messy sometimes.

loler · 11/05/2010 13:22

I have similarly named ds to your other two. I think it's interesting to see how other siblings are named. Don't get the name goes with thing - why does it matter?

With our dc3 we were really stuck between two names but I got my way after he was born. Wait until he gets here and I'm sure you'll get your own way!

By the way (not that it matters again) I much prefer Jonah, even prior to the Welsh Dom thing we used to tease the Dom in our class with another local slang term - if you're not in the area I grew up (SW) unlikely to be an issue, but these things stay with me!

Clary · 11/05/2010 13:21

Dominic.

Jonah means bad luck I am afraid (apols to any mums of Jonahs).

I know 2 small Dominics, both lovely.

brennannbooth · 11/05/2010 13:10

Congratulations!

I prefer Dominic Matthew but I like Jonah too! All your boys have lovely names.

Boobz · 11/05/2010 13:06

George.

BessieBoots · 11/05/2010 13:02

Jonah. Dom is Welsh for manure.

WorzselMummage · 11/05/2010 13:02
