We have a thread for girls names so why not one for boys?

I like it because I like the way it sounds, I like that it goes well w/DS1's name (Sam), I like Capts of the Sparrow and Harkness variety , and there actually aren't that many Jacks in my area of the US. I could go on if you'd like

Imarriedafrog, but why do they like it so much? I said why I don't like it. I'm just wondering because I think it's odd that it is so popular.

I can't believe anyone still has Jack on their shortlist. WHY?

The reason I dislike the name (and I always have, even before it became just too popular) is because it sounds flat. It is s falt boring name.

twosofar · 11/05/2010 18:37

Cheerful, I think poeople hate it because there are millions of them now.

I was at university with a guy called Jack (am in my 30's) and I thought it was really cool.

Just feels a bit less cool when there are 3 per class

CheerfulYank · 11/05/2010 18:35

Am aghast that anyone hates the name Jack! Is perfect IMO. (No, I don't have one, but it's on the shortlist for the next one.)

juicy12 · 11/05/2010 18:19

Don't like this thread. It's not the same as the ones where people are asking for opinions on names - this is more direct. My DS's name has been mentioned and I can't bear anyone thinking that they'd "hate" something about him
(Juicy12 goes off to contemplate why she's found this so sad. As you were!!)

twosofar · 11/05/2010 18:12

Sorry Scottish folk - I am wrong!!!

iloveasylumseekers · 11/05/2010 18:09

twosofar it's pretty common in Scotland. There were lots of Lewises at my school (I'm in my 30s).

twosofar · 11/05/2010 18:08

I stand corrected Maisie but I confess to being ignorant of all matters Scottish

Still sounds like a twocker to me though

twosofar · 11/05/2010 18:07

Sorry usualsuspect!

Don't think there are that many older ones about are there?? It's very very common amongst the under 10's.

It just smacks of tearaway to me!

fabhead · 11/05/2010 18:05

I agree that Nigel is the worse man's name EVER. and can you imagine having a cute baby boy and naming him Nigel!! Surely noone has done this in the last 40 years have they?

Right then you lot - I am currently looking for a name for ds3 who is on his way - I challenge you to find me a name that is not mentioned anywhere on this thread so far! (ds1 (surprisingly) and ds2's names not mentioned (not surprisingly as bit made up'ee/surnamey so would be hated I am sure)

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 11/05/2010 18:05

Lewis is a very old, traditional Scottish name! Certainly not new and Asboesque

usualsuspect · 11/05/2010 17:58

Lewis is not a new name my Db is 52 so hardly new

twosofar · 11/05/2010 17:55

Crikey my DS's names are featured over and over...who knew they were so despised!!!

Rubbish boys names IMO

Old school horrible like Wayne, Warren, Dean, Shane
New and horrible - Kai, Tyler, Harrison, Lewis, Jayden (all sound they have Asbos)

I irrationally hate Nathan and Nathaniel and
Jamie as a proper name rather than a nickname

BridesheadRegardless · 11/05/2010 17:33

It's just feels weird with the 'sss' sound and then the 'th'.

Obviously I can say it, but it deosn't feel a comfortable name to say to me.

LetThereBeRock · 11/05/2010 17:30

Why is Seth hard to say?
