lets cut to the chase and see what you do not like...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jellybeans · 10/05/2010 14:34

old grannie names...Ada, Constance, Ethel etc.

brogan2 · 10/05/2010 14:30

It is just personal taste. I also dislike Caitlin especially when spelt Caitlyn.

BridesheadRegardless · 10/05/2010 14:28

See, I dislike Louise but love Louisa.
and names ending in a generally, but not those ending in y or ie.

asdx2 · 10/05/2010 14:27

I hate my own name Donna and then
Natasha,
Kira,
Grace,
Kelly,
Kelsey,
Katrina,
Daisy,
Maisie,
Samantha
Loads actually, could take a while

Bumpsadaisie · 10/05/2010 14:27

I really dislike what I call "1950's nightclub" names e.g. Lola and Ruby. They just make me think of peroxide hair, red lipstick and feel slightly too sexual for a little baby girl.

Sorry for offending anyone who has a darling dd called one of these!

My own darling dd is Phoebe, which gets three mentions on the thread so far ...

mopsyflopsy · 10/05/2010 14:27

Of course lots & lots of people won't like our name choice, just like they prefer different foods, hair styles, music etc. Why are we so surprised at that?

diddl · 10/05/2010 14:27

My name is on here

And as an adult I finally like it!!

LuluF · 10/05/2010 14:23

OrmRenewed I'm not really offended!! x

suiledonne · 10/05/2010 14:22

My name and both my dd's names are on this list.

I think my name is fine but a bit boring and my girl's names are perfect for them so I don't care really.

BridesheadRegardless · 10/05/2010 14:22

This is just personal taste though isn't it?

I've listed those I don't like, but many others will like them, whilst others have listed perfectly lovely names imo like Lucy, Jessica and Grace.

So no one should take offence, it's more about a personal irrational thing.

OrmRenewed · 10/05/2010 14:20

Oops!

I just prefer Louise but hey, it was only an example. I could find loads more examples and offend everyone!

Sorry.

LuluF · 10/05/2010 14:19

OrmRenewed What's wrong with Louisa??? I'm offended!

(not really, it's my name - I didn't pick it) Unless you knew someone called Louisa and it was me - then I might be offended...

OrmRenewed · 10/05/2010 14:17

Not keen on frilly names ending in bel, belle or ette or a. IE I like Louise and not Louisa.

Partyofseven · 10/05/2010 14:17

I have 4 girls and 1 boy. and although my name isn't on here mrsvwoolf managed to hit two of my girls in one go. its hard not to be offended, but i have unusual not daft names, but we like them and the kids seem ok with it (apart from casey jones, cos people of a certain age always mention trains or sing the song to her)

I agree with its not the name, once you get to know children you, don't really think about the name, but there will always be names that people say remind them of a horrible girl/boy i once knew.

LuluF · 10/05/2010 14:17

A post like this always has the potential to offend, though, hasn't it? I've been scanning to see if any of my kids names are on here - and one is.

I think we all invest a lot of time and energy coming up with a name that we feel is right, and it is hard to hear that people don't like what you choose.

I'm not saying that we should all pretend we like the names people post - that's not possible - but there will be people who hate your choice - and that's a good thing, isn't it?

RedZora · 10/05/2010 14:16

Sandra

englishpatient · 10/05/2010 14:16

Dawn
Matilda
Hilda
Gertrude
Ruby
Izzie
Lizzie
Phoebe

Most hyphenated names

Cobwebsontheceiling · 10/05/2010 14:13

Kreecher has picked both my dd's names ....

BridesheadRegardless · 10/05/2010 14:12

I really dislike Stella-it seems butch to me.

As does Martha.

I don't like Tilly/Milly.

or Sadie

or Kiera

or Courtney (really hate this).

My name is one here. it's a fairly common 70's name. S'alright.

AndieWalsh · 10/05/2010 14:11

I'm not a fan of names with random apostrophes inserted e.g. La'Toya, D'Shelle

Swangirl · 10/05/2010 14:07

My name Dawn I hate it
My middle name Mary is even worse. When I was a child I wanted to be called Georgina (George)instead

Rockbird · 10/05/2010 14:05

DD's name has been mentioned along with an explanation why it's not nice. Am trying very hard not to take offence but it's not easy.

mopsyflopsy · 10/05/2010 14:03

Like fashion, names become popular at certain times and then fall out of favour and tend to feel 'dated'.

The best way to avoid this is by choosing names outside the top 100, but of course there is no way of ensuring that they don't suddenly rise in popularity .

brogan2 · 10/05/2010 14:02

Magaly, did you chose a particularly trendy name for your DC? (Just asking out of curiosity)

A big part as to why I chose Catherine & Elizabeth for my DDs was the hope that even if they lacked popularity they wouldn't date like all the 15yr old Kylies I taught!

twosofar · 10/05/2010 14:00

Oooh my list is endless!!

Anything with a hyphen eg
Ellie-Mae
Lily-Rose
Ella-Rae

but worst of these offenders is.... Demi-Leigh.... it makes me want to rip my ears off and burn them

I also hate 70's names like Donna, Sharon, Karen, Stacey, Michelle

I hate names which are deliberately mis-spelt to be "original" - Mykyla particularly offends me

I have an irrational dislike of Nathan and Nathaniel

I can think of loads more but I'd be here all day...
