lets cut to the chase and see what you do not like...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
imahappycamper · 10/05/2010 19:46

MacKenzie was my maiden name.Wasn't that keen on it as a surname but as a first name- dreadful.

I don't think my name has been mentioned either (I'm not called Janice before anyone says that it has!).

I'm actually astounded by how friendly this thread has remained. There was a similar one a year or two ago that kicked off big time because somebody had mentioned the name of someone's stillborn child.

I hope nobody has been offended this time, but if there is someone now quietly sobbing in the corner because another mumsnetter doesn't like the name of one of their loved ones, alive or departed, please remember it is just their personal taste about a faceless name. Nobody is being nasty about any person.

Names I dislike...Chelsea, Kayleigh, Muriel, Sandra, Janice, actually there are lots I'm not keen on or wouldn't choose.

Fimbo · 10/05/2010 18:22

My own name

BookAnt · 10/05/2010 18:01

My name hasn't been mentioned yet [preen]

I don't like

Sophie (terribly overused around here)
McKenzie or Kenzie (why?????)
Zoe (sometimes ppl put the double dot thing over the e, sometimes over the o)
Rita
Siobhan (its funny when people are trying to pronounce it purely from seeing the name)
Jennifer - DP loves this name, but I detest it, for reasons unknown to me
Sarah-Louise and most other hyphenated names.
Christine/Christina - something very wet sounding about it to me
Louise - Again DP loves it, but i don't

good job we had a DS

GladioliBuckets · 10/05/2010 17:44

Araminta or Minty because I hate the flavour with a passion (can just about stomach brushing my teeth everyday!).

bintofbohemia · 10/05/2010 17:07

I don't like any names with "th" in them. (Martha, Elspeth, Theodora.) I did know a Thor once though, that was pretty cool.

Psammead · 10/05/2010 17:05

Wow, 5 pages and no-one has mentioned my name yet!

[proud emoticon]

5inthebed · 10/05/2010 17:04

When I was in hospital having DS2, the woman in the bed oppisite me was trying to decide what to call her DD, McKenzie or McKenna. If I had been heavily drugged I'd have talked her out of either. She called her McKenna.

Oh I had a hat trick all 3 DDs names on here, DD1's several times, DD2's is very uncommon as well.

AbsOfCroissant · 10/05/2010 16:59

Oh yes, the cutesey names. Jamie Oliver's choices make me feel nauseous, like I've eaten too much icing (Honey Boo, Petal Blossom Rainbow). URGH

Relieved to see my name's not on here. Phew

minipie · 10/05/2010 16:56

Ok here goes:

Ugly-sounding old lady names - Ethel, Gertrude, Hilda, Olive.

Anything double barrelled - Jamie-Lee, Carrie-Ann

Anything spelt funny

Anything that is really a boy's name (Jamie) or a surname (Morgan, Madison)

Anything overly "frilly" - Arabella, Georgiana, Mariella, you get the picture.

Names that are too obviously feminised boys' names - Nigella, Thomasina, Roberta, Edwina

Anything too "cutesy" - Poppy, Daisy, Honey, Millie - unless they also have a "proper" birth cert name.

Anything reflecting a particular virtue - Prudence, Patience, Hope.

I quite like what I think of as "bad girl" names - Tallulah, Delilah, Ruby, Roxy - but wouldn't call my child by them

I don't really like most names beginning with O or H (with a few exceptions, eg I do like Hazel and Holly)

Erm... Not sure what that leaves!

cece · 10/05/2010 16:55

I really have an irrational dislike of the names;

Rebecca

and

Jessica

I am sure they are perfectly nice really, but when there are so many lovely girls names around I always think why???

I am really surprised to see Sadie mentioned a few times. I love that name!

So each to their own nd it's a good job we aren't all the same as that would make life boring!

Oh and yes I really dislike 'modern' names like last names...

eg.
Broook
Taylor

and so on...

AbFabT · 10/05/2010 16:50

Anyway, no more counting - I am off to go look at myself in the mirror.

Greensleeves · 10/05/2010 16:50

my name is on here twice

AbFabT · 10/05/2010 16:49

That's five!

My name has been mentioned quite a few times. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's all down to personal taste.

LetThereBeRock · 10/05/2010 16:44

I agree re McKenzie.

LetThereBeRock · 10/05/2010 16:42

Mine has finally been mentioned. I was beginning to feel left out.

I can't understand why anyone would be offended if their name is on someone's list.
It's quite different from disliking the person who has that particular name.

Magaly · 10/05/2010 16:41

Brogan2, no I didn't, but apparently people are sick of it!

AbFabT · 10/05/2010 16:39

Not sure what happened there, but that first para should read:

My name is on here FOUR times! I've always loved it, and really don't care! I got a lot of comments growing up about what a lovely name it is! It is more frequently-used now though.
The names we have lined up for our children (currently expecting first) are not on here, though I have seen them on previous un-liked lists.
