lets cut to the chase and see what you do not like...

My granny's name has been said by quite a few to be awful. But I think she would have agreed .

DD's name has been mentioned a few times.

My mum's name has been mentioned - she doesn't like it much either.

My name has been mentioned and people think it should be spelled with a C . It begins with a K

Flower / cutesy names: Poppy, Daisy, Ivy, Petal, Iris, Violet, Lily, Rainbow, Boo, Honey, Millie, Pixie...

V names: Violet, Verity

K names: all of them, except Kate which is lovely. Would always, always choose, for example, Catherine over Katherine.

'Quirky' spellings: e.g. 'yn' endings and general butcherings of originally nice names - Ellyse for Alice, etc, etc.

Hypenated madness: Daisy-Mae, Ella-Rae

Double names which aren't even hyphenated: Sarah Jane, Sarah Louise, etc, etc. Lovely by themselves - no need to double up

Old lady not chic in the slightest: Ruby, Pearl, Ivy, Hilda, Beryl, Sybil, Maud, Mabel, Morag

Alicia, Aleesha, Elisha, and all permutations

Stripper names: Lola, Tallulah, Delilah

'Trendy' names: Darcy, Scarlett, Sienna and all others which will date them horrifically

Random others: Imogen, Charlotte, Ella (such a non name), Jenna, Florence, Deborah

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

For what it's worth, my own name has been mentioned once (more if you take other spellings) - but it seems to be ubiquitous now so hardly surprising some people don't like it, whereas it was rare as hen's teeth in my day. DD-to-be's name hasn't been mentioned at all, and it is a classic name - not at all unusual.

Olivia
Jessica
Leslie
Courtney
Chelsea
Samantha
Maddison, Britany- or anything typically American
Maureen

and my real pet hate - Jordan.

No offence to anyone of course, the name does not reflect the person.

sungirltan · 10/05/2010 22:22

androgynous (sic) names

names which are mispelled on purpose 'to be different'

non traditonal hyphenated names 'britney-charmaine' etc

I don't like pretty flowery names.

things like Daisy, Poppy, Maisie.

UnrequitedSkink · 10/05/2010 22:03

Of all the 'popular' names right now I can't for the life of me understand why someone would call a baby girl 'Matilda'. It doesn't look or sound pretty, and Mattie is an awful nn.

Also loathe Erica (reminds me of ginger pubes - not sure why) and not very keen on Millie (too mousey)or Martha.

brogan2 · 10/05/2010 21:57

I have taught a Jorja. Apparently, so the Reception teacher told me, the mum heard it, liked it and just assumed that was the correct spelling.

CaptainUnderpants · 10/05/2010 21:53

Any hyphen names - Daisy-Rose, Daisy-Mai, Sarah-Lou , also Molly . Milly , Tilly

I know a Lola and every time I see her I have to stop myself from singing Barry Manilow

schroeder · 10/05/2010 21:48

Avril is the pits.
DD's name is on the list, but is lovely

Oh dear, my name is on here more than once, but I'm ok

I'd be a bit gutted if DD's name was on here - there are one or two on people's lists that I'm considering for the next one if it's a girl though...

I dislike names that have odd spellings - e.g. a friend wanted 'Jorja' for Georgia and also double-barrelled names, e.g. Kerry-Anne though I'm not sure why as Kerry-Anne is quite a pretty name.

MarineIguana · 10/05/2010 21:32

I think some names that are inherently inoffensive really rile me when they turn into total bandwagon names.

Maia/Maya/whatever - just stop already, we have enough! Likewise Eve, though I used to like it.

Madison - what? Why is this a name? And the same goes for girls called Mackenzie and Piper, Parker, Plumber etc.

Lola - just can't get past the cutesiness/sex worker vibes it gives off. In 25 years there are going to be all kinds of lawyers and teachers and police officers called Lola and I'm convinced it will still sound that way.

bossyboop · 10/05/2010 21:24

and Bronwyn

bossyboop · 10/05/2010 21:24

Rochelle and Aleasha

BikeRunSki · 10/05/2010 21:21

I have an irrational dislike of Charlotte, although I know that I am in a massive minority. Sorry to all Charlottes out there, especially as my name is one that is often mentioned in the "what goes with what" name threads alongside Charlotte.

My own name has appeared on here but I love it!
Am quite surprised by some people's choices tbh and have to say a lot of posters must go for the more wackier sounding names if they find names like Jennifer and Jessica awful!

GladioliBuckets · 10/05/2010 20:07

angel886 · 10/05/2010 19:53

My name is on here! I don't like it either though

At least my dd's name isn't mentioned.

HerHonesty · 10/05/2010 19:50
