Help! I cant name my baby as everyone's decided already

Has anyone had this problem? My baby has been given a nickname since birth, Lulu, (originally short for Lucy) which has stuck. I never wanted Lucy but no one seems to take it seriously when I want to discuss other names.Im finding it impossible to name her because her father just wont use any other name.

Thats interesting Willow5. Could I also ask you for the aussie perspective on little girls called Matilda. I had grown to like Matilda Lucy/Lulu but not sure about the Waltzing Matilda connotations.

why not just call her Lulu?

willow5 · 11/05/2010 12:22

Lulu is a pretty mainstream name here in Australia. My little girl is 4 and there is a Lulu in her nursery, she's gorgeous with big brown eyes and dark curly hair, I love the name Lulu!

Poohbearsmom · 09/05/2010 15:55

Lucy is a lovely name and Lulu is very sweet id go for Lucy Elisabeth myself if you are going to change it but i really do think its a very nice name

thumbwitch · 09/05/2010 15:34

Why stick with Lucy/Lucie at all?
Louise/Louisa are just as valid for Lulu as a nn - I had 2 friends at school called Louise who used it, whereas my friend's sister who is a Lucy was just called Lu, never Lulu.

You could always go for Lulabelle...

I like Lucia but would always pronounce it Italian-style with a "ch" sound in the middle.

Another friend was always called Lulu at home because her middle name was Louise - everyone else called her by her first name.

So go with whatever you like, let your DH call her Lulu and she can decide whenever she's old enough what she wants to use.

Oops, my bad, sorry Mistress addicted...

addictedisinthesecondtrimester · 09/05/2010 15:28

boobs you know your ds real name is colin, bryn is just what you call him

anyway op, call her what ever you like

SirBoobAlot · 09/05/2010 15:16

Name her whatever you please - DS was nicknamed Nelson in the womb, and still gets called that. His real name is Bryn

Love Lucia Florence, Florence and Matilda.

Hulababy · 09/05/2010 10:05

I love the names Florence and Matilda.

Mind, i do like Lucie too..

AuntieMaggie · 09/05/2010 10:01

what about louise as an alternative for lucy/lucia?

diddl · 09/05/2010 09:48

Lucia as first name.
Lucia Elizabeth?

Lucy doesn´t seem to "go" as a middle name.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/05/2010 09:15

Err, not being funny, but if you registered her as Lucie then you can't really complain that people are calling her that or derivations of that. Esp when you don't even know what you do want to call her.

thisisyesterday · 09/05/2010 09:12

i'd be tempted to go qwith Lucia because then it isn't such a big change and he can still call her Lulu

they're all lovely though, particularly like Elisabeth

gypsycurlytots · 09/05/2010 09:08

I like Matilda Lucy and Florence Lucy. Let us know what you finally decide on! Hope all goes well

orti · 08/05/2010 22:02

Ok i dont HATE the name. It is just very similar to my name and dull with our short surname. I do think its pretty and thought it would be fine as a middle name. We have now discussed it again and its basically now for me to decide from the following:

Elisabeth Lucy - his fave
Anna Lucy/Anna Lucia
Annabel Lucy
Matilda Lucy
Florence Lucy
Lucia Florence - he doesnt like Lucia but i do.
Juliette Lucy

Lucie is lovely

do you really hate it now? why did you give her a nickname if you didn't want to use it??

sorry, that doesn't help you now does it. I think you need to sit down with your dh and just say look, I really don't like Lucie. I would like to change it sooner rather than later.
Here are the names I like, please pick one

he will keep calling her Lulu for a while, it IS her name right now, but I am sure he'll get used to the new name soon enough

loobylu3 · 08/05/2010 19:46

What names do you like? I notice that you have posted quite a few on here which are all lovely.
You need to speak to your DH and let him know if you are unsure about Lucy.
Maybe you could use Lucia/ Luciana and Lucy as a nn or Lucy as a mn.
It is your baby and you shouldn't use a name that you aren't keen on or you will regret it!

Ivykaty44 · 08/05/2010 19:12

Call her katie, then call her kittylou

Tortington · 08/05/2010 19:08

ha ha! quite right, call your kid lousie - i guarentee one day it shall come true

Rockbird · 08/05/2010 18:57

Hmm, tricky. Can you book an appt with whoever you need to see and present it to him as a fait accompli? Don't give him room for argument. Do you have a name in mind or are you still choosing?

belgo · 08/05/2010 17:02

What names do you like?

orti · 08/05/2010 16:53

Rockbird he just says he doesnt like it to any name I suggest! Or he says, its ok, so i say, let's try that then but then he just calls her Lulu. This is really embarrassing but I registered her as Lucie initially (hate that spelling now) with the intention that I would add a middle name/change it within 12 months (its easy to do). Time is now running out and I am not leaving it as it is. I was going to compromise and have Lucy as a middle name but i know now that she would just end up being called that.

We need more info really. How old is the baby? Presumably she's not registered yet? I don't get how you can't discuss it? What happens if you say to DH;

You - Right, we need to get this name sorted. I like Hepzibah and Emintrude. What about you?

DH - She's Lucy isn't she?

You - Er no. I don't like Lucy. Lulu is just a nickname. We need a 'proper' name for her.

DH - Well, Lucy is a proper name.

You - Yes but I don't like Lucy. Now, what do you think about Doris?

And so on...

Tortoise · 08/05/2010 15:57

SOH!

thirtysomething · 08/05/2010 15:54

You should call your baby whatever you and DP agree on. End of. Why should other people think if they use another name it will just "stick"? she's your baby. What names do YOU like?
