My daughter is called Juno - we get a lot of surprised/funny looks and people always want an explanation, so be prepared if you choose that or anything else on you list!

Apart from that, my fave is Lorelei.

MintyMoo · 24/05/2010 18:43

Cerelia is lovely, there is a character with a similar name - Corelia - in Pompeii by Robert Harris. Has same feel but without the risk of 'cereal' as a nickname.

TruthSweet · 24/05/2010 18:28

Atlantis - you've met her?? Do we have DCs at the same playschool?

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 24/05/2010 16:53

...and is the name of our most evil chicken

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 24/05/2010 16:52

Lilith was a demon!

ticktockclock · 24/05/2010 15:56

Like Calla, Minerva, Juno and Cerelia

Love, Love, Love different names!!

telsa · 24/05/2010 15:49

In another life I would have had a Lorelei ...because of the lovely Lorelei song 'Ich weiss nicht was soll es bedeuten ...'.

Juno is sweet too. Minerva not bad - wisdom.

TruthSweet · 24/05/2010 13:31

DD3 is Callia (was going to be called Callie for short but she just is a Callia). We were toying with Calantha or Ianthe but went with what seemed like the easiest to pronounce and what went with other DDs names.

Also love Lorelei (Gilmore Girls is one of DH & I's favourite TV programmes) but DD1 is Lilith so it was a bit twee to have a Lilith & Lorelei!

Hedwig3 · 24/05/2010 13:01

I love Minerva and quite like Juno.

tweedledumdum · 24/05/2010 12:47

Just noticed this thread is still around!

Thank you to everyone who has replied.

kittyonthebeam- thank you for the suggestions. I love Genevieve and like Thalia and Evangeline a lot.

bourboncreme- Your suggestions are some of my favourites too! Penelope, Daphne, Honoria and Cassandra are so pretty. The only one I' m not keen on is Hester.

Haven't finalised a short list as yet so new ideas are useful.

Callia/ Calla - ok, don't love it
Minerva - sounds like a type of car/ van to me
Eulalie (you-lay-lee)- musical instrument (Eucalayle?)
Mimosa -It's a bucks fizz in America - no.
Juno - Alaskan town
Cerelia (se-ray-le-ah) she'll spend her life spelling it
Azalea - hmmm
Lorelei - don't mind it
Ginevra (gin-ev-ra) no

TIA- Like it out of all of them !

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 24/05/2010 10:01

Tienette looks pretty but then I started to wonder what it meant and it began to sound like a Gallic aid to pelvic floor problems.

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 24/05/2010 09:59

I like Mimosa, Eulalie and Juno. Unfortunately I hate the others, particularly Lorelei which is not IMO mysterious or beautiful. it is a bungalow in Chiswick.

ludlowcalling · 24/05/2010 09:48

Loreli is lovely.

LaRagazzaInglese · 24/05/2010 09:20

Lorelei or Ginevra

LadyBone · 21/05/2010 09:42

Callia/ Calla - maybe
Minerva - yes
Eulalie (you-lay-lee) - yes
Mimosa - maybe
Juno - yes
Cerelia (se-ray-le-ah) - no
Azalea - no
Lorelei - yes
Ginevra (gin-ev-ra) - maybe

lifeas3plus1 · 21/05/2010 09:39

I only LOVE Minerva but that's because it was our 1st choice if this baby was a girl.

I'm having a boy though and really struggling with names.

I'd be sooo happy if someone used the name Minerva.

RedRoseRibbon · 21/05/2010 09:03

I like Eulalie, Juno and Lorelei.

sleepyhead3 · 21/05/2010 07:31

A really interesting list of names!

I like Calla, Ginevra and Eulalie.

bourboncreme · 20/05/2010 21:51

If you are looking for something Greek or Roman gosddess like wghat about,Penelope or Daphne or Cassandra (although not very nice story),alternatively Hester or Honoria

aspiegal · 20/05/2010 21:28

Callia, Callie,Calista are great.
Also love Ginevra from original list
Lorelei is good. So is Juno
Not so keen on the others but I might
think differently if i knew one after all
you tend not to like what you don't know

tweedledumdum · 10/05/2010 16:08

I like something like Calla but am more keen on Callie - perhaps short for Calista? Or Kali like the Hindu goddess.

I'm originally from the west coast of North America where every second boy is a Kai and most girls are now named Montana, Dakota or after other random places. My nieces are called Tavia and Rayne and my nephew is Cael. At first I scoffed but all the names have grown on me and suit each of them. Go with what you like - traditional or unusual someone else is always going to hate it! (Or love it ).

CoteDAzur · 09/05/2010 14:10

Or Psycho, quite possibly.

nighbynight · 09/05/2010 14:01

From your original list, Id go with Juno or Ginevra.
