We found out today that DC2 is going to be a girl, which is what we were both secretly hoping for..!

What do you think of Nancy? It is our current fore-runner and has been at the top of the list since finding out I was pregnant with DS.

Other names we love are:

Edith
Esther
Mathilda
Stella
Martha
Phoebe
April

TIA

Well, we only get positive comments, too.

reikizen · 06/05/2010 17:09

Vested interest but imo a lovely name and everyone always comments on how nice it is too.

diddl · 06/05/2010 17:07

It is an awful old lady name.

redllamayellowllama · 06/05/2010 16:34

DH had the same worry. Moreover, he didn't want anyone to be under the impression that he was a Tory through his choice of the name Nancy. I took LuluF's line of argument.

It's odd that Nancy seems to go down so well, yet there are relatively few of them - I don't know of any and have never heard it in playgrounds/playgroups.

Do you think so? What are Gordon Brown's children called? Or Tony Blair's. I can only remember Leo. I'm not sure that people in the UK aspire to being like politicians.

Nancy66 · 06/05/2010 14:34

I love Nancy (of course!)

....david cameron has a daughter called nancy, if he gets elected I wonder if it will lead to a rise in popularity?

Chunkamatic · 05/05/2010 22:36

DS2 was going to be Nancy. I love the name so much it makes me I shall never get to use it... so please use it and take great pride in your excellent taste on my behalf!!

redllamayellowllama · 05/05/2010 14:29

Lovely, more positive reponses. Haven't heard of the Fancy Nancy books, will check them out pre-emptively.

At the moment, I think we're going with Su for a middle name. Now I now this is a bit of a silly spelling and so on, but let me explain my logic. My grandma is Suze (soo-za) and I would like to honour that. My mum calls all of her daughters Su - I'm not really sure why - so it's a combination of the two.

DH already has his nose a little put out of joint after I campaigned tirelessly for DS to have my late grandfather's name as his middle name (Rolfe), so Su seems like a compromise.

CaptainNancy · 04/05/2010 23:22

Glad to find another fan Piprabbit!

piprabbit · 04/05/2010 15:39

Nancy is a great name. Always reminds me of Captain Nancy in the Swallows and Amazons books.

And of course you'll be able to buy her all the 'Fancy Nancy' books when she turns your house into a pink boudoir.

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/05/2010 15:35

Nancy is a lovely name.

Actually all your names on your list are excellent choices, apart from April which I really don't like.

DumpyOldWoman · 04/05/2010 15:12

Nancy is a fabulous name.

Martha, Mathilda, Phoebe
then
Stella
Edith
Esther

and

April.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 04/05/2010 15:03

Nancy is great.

For second names, I really think that it's nice to choose a name that means something to you - to honour a friend, relative or someone else you admire

GladioliBuckets · 04/05/2010 10:41

Oh I like all your names, have been on many a shortlist for me. Although agree April could be a little bit goody-twoshoes-US-TV-show-character.

I also like Marianne (Maggie for short.)

Magaly · 04/05/2010 10:28

I love Nancy, Edith, Martha and Phoebe
I like Esther
I like Stella but I wouldn't use it.
April I just don't like. APE

LuluF · 03/05/2010 20:51

I did that - had a wobble just before she was born, tried another few names - but couldn't see her as anything else. Definitely don't tell anyone until she arrives - we had ALL the comments, all those facial expressions (you know the ones).

redllamayellowllama · 03/05/2010 19:59

I'm glad so many of these have got a positive response!

We've pretty much decided on Nancy. It's been my favourite girl's name for so long that I think I fell out of love with it a bit as I'd got so used to it.

I'm thinking of her as Nancy now, although we're not telling anyone in RL - it's nice for there to be some element of surprise.

Now, onto middle names...

Nancy is a great name - we have a three year old Nancy - AKA Fancy Pants.

I like them all, though - Pheobe being my least favourite, it's a lovely name - but there are so many now.

MamaLazarou · 02/05/2010 10:09

Best name ever.

Mousesmummy · 01/05/2010 22:35

Spooky. . . I have an Esther and a Martha and if DC4 is a girl, Nancy is in my top 3!!!!
So obviously they are all lovely names - go for any of them!!!
