Thoughts on Lainey or Laina please

We are having real trouble deciding on a girls name. She is due in 4 weeks, so time is rapidly running out.

What do you reckon to Laina or Lainey -- we quite like them, but worried they are too similar to lane (i.e. passageway).

Been scouring the interweb but no joy -- other thoughts include Juliet.

(This is my first posting, been interesting lurking for a while)

Thanks

No and no.

wickedfairy · 06/05/2010 18:19

what about Elaina - that is my cousins name and then you could use Laina as a nickname??

muminthemiddle · 06/05/2010 16:17

Both sound like made up names for some American soap. Not my cup of tea.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2010 18:31

Leine is Irish for shirt or blouse. (pr Laina)

Jamieandhismagictorch · 04/05/2010 16:43

I love Lainey - I think it's Irish - I've met a Lainey

Also

Leah

I really like Lainey for a girl and Laine for a boy, know of two Laine's over the years. Not so keen on Laina.

bellissima · 03/05/2010 16:48

Lainey looks like it might be French for woolly.

The name is Lena surely. Agree Elena also lovely though the one I know pronounces her name E-le-na not E-lay-na.

Thanks again for your opinions!

Not at all keen on Laina or Lainey.

Juliet and Helena are beautiful, classic and not over used.

FightingDwarf · 03/05/2010 11:10

DD2 is Lena, short for Helena. I also call her Lainey, Lily and Lilybee as nicknames.

Jenbot · 03/05/2010 10:59

I think Lainey is quite a sweet nickname, but I'd probably go for Helena as the long version, or something similar.
Juliet is nice too.

skihorse · 03/05/2010 10:25

Lena is pronounced "Laina" without looking stupid.

Magaly · 03/05/2010 10:08

Just spotted that Juliet is on your list. That's a lovely name.

Magaly · 03/05/2010 10:07

Lainey is a nn for Elaine isn't it?
I prefer Lainey to Elaine.

I like Elen and Elena. Ylenia is a greek version and that's nice.

I don't like Laina thought. sounds a bit incomplete.

CallSignCharlie · 03/05/2010 10:01

What about Lania (pronounced to rhyme with Narnia)

I know a a lovely little girl with this name. Classy and sounds good for an adult as well as a little girl I think

mathanxiety · 03/05/2010 00:31

Juliet is much nicer than either one, imo. And I love Haliborange's suggestions.

I knew a Laina who was named after her mother Elaine.

GladioliBuckets · 02/05/2010 23:00

Elena (Ellaina) or Eleni (Ellainee) are real names, would be more classy.

clam · 02/05/2010 22:51

I think they're both awful.

Sorry, but you did ask!

weepootle · 02/05/2010 22:35

I don't like Laina and Lainey is just awful, sorry. It's used as a shortening for Lorraine.

Fleecy · 02/05/2010 22:32

I like Lainey but as an abbrevation for Helena. Never heard of Laina though so would be a bit about that one.

CakeandRoses · 02/05/2010 22:28

Juliet is great, I'm not so keen on Lainey/Laina but neither are awful.

How about Lana (as in Turner)?

Haliborange · 01/05/2010 16:59

Yes, Juliet is LOVELY.
Lainey is short for Elaine IMO. How about Elena (my Greek friend named her baby that), Helena, Lene or (a bit out there) Yolaine (which means Violet) instead?

recireci · 01/05/2010 16:40

I meant Larissa (Lara)

recireci · 01/05/2010 16:40

What about Lena, Laura, Lianna, Lydia, Larissa (Laura), Lorraine, Louisa?

I like Juliet as well.

claricebean · 01/05/2010 16:33

My DD2 has Lene as a middle name. It is pronounced Layna. It's a Danish name. We named her after a lovely Danish friend who sadly dies while I was pregnant. Would that be similar enough to Laine or Lainey?
