Baby Boy - Salvatore vs. Solomon

Hi everyone,

What are your votes for above names. Salvatore is my father's name. Solomon is something I just love.

I'd like to call Salvatore by his full name and not revert to using "Sal" until later in life.

As for Solomon, I would call him both Solomon and Sol (sounds like Saul).

Thanks....

Solomon

Salvatore is usually shortened to Salvo (by italian speakers). Not keen on either Salvatore or Solomon but if it has to be between the two then imho Solomon is better.

I have an Italian background (last name Vespa) but his daddy is of Afro-American and Scottish (his father born and raised in Scotland) mix. My first son looks Greek/ Italian.... It all combined to have a sultry Mediterranean blend. I am assuming my next son will look the same but I have no idea! I'm 33 weeks along!!

I love them both. If you're in the US and you have a family connection to the name that seems quite strong, then I'd go for Salvatore.

Solomon - I think it is gorgeous and Sol as nn is fab too

if your background is latin american or Italian then Salvatore may be a more acceptable choice.......butv it's your baby so go with your heart

Like both, but definitely prefer Solomon

Thank you for the vote, and for sharing your thoughts about the name.

Yes I live in Vermont. New England at least . My grandfather came to Ellis Island, NYC in the 1940s. His name was also Salvatore.

Does your MN name mean you live in the US? I ask because Salvatore is not very common in the UK though I have heard it where I live but we have a big Italian community.... if it gets shortened to Sal is there a risk people may think he is a girl (Sally)?

Having said all that, I think I prefer Salvatore to Solomon!

Solomon.
