but what think ye of Prairie as a girl's name? I quite like the sound of it, as well as the landscape it evokes (which has family significance for me)...

(And it's not as hippy dippy as Meadow, surely?)

If I had a friend called Copse I'd nn her Corpse..

cloelia · 29/04/2010 19:48

Most I've laughed today. Kwini, think you should think again.

ShowOfHands · 29/04/2010 18:23

Yes, there's something rather beautiful about naming your child after post-apocalyptic gunsharks isn't there mathanxiety? Ramone and Finnigan probably slightly more acceptable but DH was having none of it.

mathanxiety · 29/04/2010 17:56

Sinister would be Dexter's twin.

scurryfunge · 29/04/2010 16:22

Are the nicknames Deli or Vera?

WombFrootShoot · 29/04/2010 16:21

I dated a man once who wanted to call his first born daughter Misty. His surname was Love - I shit you not.

Hullygully · 29/04/2010 16:13

I have a child called Deliverance.

ShowOfHands · 29/04/2010 16:08

Wotcha Hully, good to have you back. Nice boning.

My DH honestly suggested we name our dc1 Sinister if it was a boy.

Reader, I divorced him.

WombFrootShoot · 29/04/2010 16:05

sounds really rude.

A FOF has twins called Summer and Eden. Which would be fine if their surname wasn't Moore. FFS.

WombFrootShoot · 29/04/2010 15:59

Tomfoolery and Tittering are my 2nd cousins on my mothers' side

ShowOfHands · 29/04/2010 15:55

Show Of Hands sing about an Undertow you know.

Prairie puts me in mind of The Lion King which is a bit, you know, dead dads and evil uncles but quite evocative of modern dysfunctional families.

Oh yes. Prairie works on many levels.

Hullygully · 29/04/2010 15:50

Babynames is not the place for tomfoolery and tittering.

WombFrootShoot · 29/04/2010 15:50

I hope that remark wasn't directed at me Hully

scurryfunge · 29/04/2010 15:49

Sorry miss.....got carried away...won't do it again....not for a while anyway

Hullygully · 29/04/2010 15:48

I think you are all being a bit silly now, aren't you?

scurryfunge · 29/04/2010 15:44

I know an Architrave and Antimacassar aswell....Archie and Cassie for short...very pretty

WombFrootShoot · 29/04/2010 15:42

Copse is lovely because it's pretty much:

a) Nickname proof
b) Unusual but not, y'know, stupid

I have a nephew called Barricade. He loves his name and it goes so well with his sister's name. Which is Balustrade.

Hullygully · 29/04/2010 15:32

I like Copse very much

Also suggest Undertow
