Adam - what does it get shortened to?

Thinking of Adam as a name for baby number 2, partly as it's a crossover Muslim / English name. Just wondering if anyone who already has (or knows) an Adam can tell me what it gets shortened to, if anything?

My brother is Adam in full to everyone but me who gets away with calling him Ads - a sister's perogative I reckon!

fromheretomaternity · 27/04/2010 22:42

Ew, not so keen on some of these (Adamski?!), I suppose you can't control what nicknames a child picks up.

Also thinking of Rafi though that maybe has worse nickname potential.

Maybe it'll be a girl, wd make the whole naming thing far easier!

I know a couple of Adams and have never heard it shortened to Ad. They are either just Adam or sometimes Damz, which of course isn't a shortening at all! Love Adam but hate Ad.

WorzselMummage · 27/04/2010 20:43

Df is an Adam. I've only ever used his full name

sunchild77 · 27/04/2010 20:40

Adzo

WeNeedToLeaveInFiveMinutes · 27/04/2010 20:14

I've heard Ad and Adamski.

Nicolaplus1 · 27/04/2010 20:02

We have a friend who get's called AJ by the lads

CurlyCasper · 26/04/2010 17:26

Smithy - or whatever else derived from your surname

I've never known Adams itself to be shortened.

notso · 26/04/2010 14:06

I know two 3 year old Adams who are just Adam no nn.

I know two 30 year old Adams one is Adi, Adidas, Adamski, the other is Ads or Adman.
I know that both their Mothers dissaprove of these nicknames.

tootyflooty · 26/04/2010 13:57

dh is Adam, I call him Ad and sometimes, Ad the Dad!

GladioliBuckets · 26/04/2010 13:32

DH is Adam. I never shorten it but I think some people call him Ad occasionally. He has other nicknames but not connected to that name - people have to try a bit harder LOL.

ShowOfHands · 26/04/2010 09:21

Only Adam I know is called Wad. I don't know why.

StealthPolarBear · 26/04/2010 09:18

lovely name though, and she's stopped calling him Nads now they're in their 30s I think

StealthPolarBear · 26/04/2010 09:17

Ads, IME
or Nads (by his sister)

debaronz · 26/04/2010 09:16

I've only heard the full name used for Adam.

StableButDeluded · 26/04/2010 00:18

I've got an Adam. We never shorten it, in fact we never considered anyone would shorten it, but his childminder calls him Ad and DH can't stand it. I'm not keen either, TBH but that's because I think Adam is lovely just as it is

Julezboo · 25/04/2010 21:19

Ad's here too. It's my DS2's name I love it
