Not to everyone's taste I am aware, but these are the two girls names we are trying to choose between.

I already have a Benedict and a Rex

Any thoughts?

Yes, Artemis was Apollo's sister. The roman version is Diana iirc.

I like greek myths.

Artemis all the way. Anastasia is not as uncommon as you may think. Artermis is a truly classy name, Anastasia less so.

Tocca · 28/04/2010 13:40

something to do with hunting I think.

Anyway, Artemis. Missy is a good nn.

CoteDAzur · 28/04/2010 13:37

Artemis is a girls' name. It is a Greek goddess. One of Zeus' daughters, iirc.

I know an Artemis (Greek father) and finding a shorter nn has been a bit of a problem. She is currently called "Missy" by her mom.

Jenbot · 27/04/2010 16:25

I like Anastasia better myself, but I think Artemis goes better with your other two names.

RnB · 27/04/2010 09:25

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm strongly swaying towards Artemis now And thanks baskingseals and cakeandroses

Artemis, unusual yet heard of. Lovely.

Anastasia too frilly-pink-cutesey. And nicknames are a mine field.

StrictlyKatty · 26/04/2010 11:55

word rather

StrictlyKatty · 26/04/2010 11:55

Hhaha well there is no world 'nastier' in Russian! That's why I don't think you should use Russian names and then not use the proper short forms. It doesn't make sense to pick a Russian name only to have a very non Russian nickname.

If you like Annie why not Annabel?

debaronz · 26/04/2010 11:46

That's how "nastier" would be pronounced in the north.

StrictlyKatty · 26/04/2010 11:36

No it's said Nast-Yah.

CakeandRoses · 26/04/2010 11:31

I love your taste in names RnB I would go for Rex for DC2 if it didn't sound ridiculous with DS's name.

I think Artemis is the one for me, its very unusual and the connotations are fabulous! It would also go brilliantly with your other two.

ReneRusso · 26/04/2010 11:08

Annie is lovely as a nn.

RnB · 26/04/2010 10:53

I wouldn't exactly call Annie a horrible name

sophiesmummie · 26/04/2010 10:50

Nastya? Pronounced Nasty-a?

Anya is a lovely name in its own right imo.

StrictlyKatty · 26/04/2010 10:39

Anastasia should really be shorted to Nastya or Anya. I don't like to see beautiful Russian names shortened to horrible non Russian NN's personally.

RnB · 26/04/2010 09:49

Goodness, thanks for all the replies!

If we went with Anastasia we would establish the nn Annie from the beginning as I find Stacey quite repulsive (apologies to any Stacey's out there)

Damn it, still can't decide!

ReneRusso · 24/04/2010 22:01

Definitely Anastasia.

baskingseals · 24/04/2010 22:00

love both names actually, but if I had to chose it would be Artemis - it's got such lovely connotations. Really like your boys' names.

nikki1978 · 24/04/2010 21:50

Anastasia is nice.

Artemis is horrific, sorry.

Florencemaman · 24/04/2010 21:47

Artemis is lovely - classic and femine and unlikely to date.

Anastasia is a little to 'frilly' for me and likely to be always shortened. Not keen on Stacy as nickname.

mathanxiety · 24/04/2010 20:18

Very slightly biased in favour of Anastasia , or even Anastatia.

RockinSockBunnies · 24/04/2010 17:45

I adore the name Artemis. We know a little girl with the name - it never occured to me that it's a boy's name.

Artemis is on my list if I have another DD, though DP can't stand the idea so it's unlikely I'd be able to use it....

Claire236 · 24/04/2010 16:57

I thought Artemis was a boys name too. How does the name of a Greek goddess become a boys name. Strange. It's a great girls name.

I love Anastasia & wanted to use it if ds2 had been a girl. You will definitely have to decide on a nn you like if you use it though as you won't be able to avoid it being shortened.

DeborahDevonshire · 24/04/2010 16:56

I think Artemis goes better with your DC's names as well.
