The perfect present for Beau, aside from a 12 pack or ponyball of Miller Lite, is a tshirt that reads, 'Guns Don't Kill People. People Kill People,' or 'Bullets Don't Go Where You Want, They Go Where They're Aimed.'33

downthecreek · 23/04/2010 19:07

It's a terrible name.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 19:07

My BIL is from Dickinson, TX, 5dollar.

His name is Larry. Not Lawrence. Larry is his God given name.

There were several 'Beau's in his elementary school.

Not so many in high school .

notso · 23/04/2010 19:06

Have you been spying on me expat?

northernsoul · 23/04/2010 19:05

I've always liked Beau, conjures up images of John Steinbeck type characters.
A good wholesome name

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 19:05

Beau's the type of guy who has a gunrack in the window of the cab of his pick up. The wall in his living room has a Confederate flag hanging up over the couch for decoration and window unit for a/c, hooked up to a generator under the aluminimum awning that passes for a patio outside the door of the trailer.

Beau has a woman called Charla or Shania and the two of them hang round the trailer park on Friday nights getting liquored up and firing rounds off the one person who's actually got a real patio off their trailer.

5DollarShake · 23/04/2010 19:03

@ expat.

Yep, very much a Deep South name to me, too. Ashley's kid in Gone with the Wind was called Beau for that exact reason.

Definitely a boy's name.

notso · 23/04/2010 19:02

well Belle is clearly the worst Disney Princess.

Now I'm off to feed Bobby-Ray, Lily-Sue, Darlene and Cleetus.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 19:01

bow and arrow.

Yeah, they like short names.

Easier to spell since you're leaving school at 14, anyway.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 19:01

'Hey, ya'll! Don't mind my dawg, Beau, he don't like people much. Beer's in the cooler. Got the ribs smoking in the pit. Lemme introduce you to my redneck Cajun buddy, Tibideaux. Anyone wanna eat some 'coon? Tidideaux's great with a boy and arrow he shot one right up!'

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 18:59

And Beau is redneck dog's name.

notso · 23/04/2010 18:58

Belle is rubbish ner ner ne ner ner.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 18:55

That's because it's not a girl's name.

Belle is a girls' name.

Beau on a girl isn't redneck/hillbilly, it's just ridiculous and naff.

notso · 23/04/2010 18:54

Thats for a boy right?
It's not redneck for a girl is it?

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 18:52

I know a lot of dogs called Beau.

It's a great dog name.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 18:52

It's an old Southern boys name.

There was a tradition among rich white Southerners in the Civil War to give their sons as a forename the surname of the commanding officer under whom their fathers were serving.

Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard had a lot of people fighting for him.

notso · 23/04/2010 18:50

How can you lump Beau with Cleetus, I am

Journey · 23/04/2010 18:50

I think its hideous. It sounds like an explanation of some sort rather than a name. Agree with the other posts. If the child isn't beautiful it just makes it cringe worthy.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 18:49

No, it's awful bcause it's redneck and hillbilly.

CinderellaRach · 23/04/2010 18:47

Redneck and hillbilly?
Shame that people think it's awful. Is it because it's OTT??

OP posts:
mistressploppy · 23/04/2010 18:46

Yes. But if you like it, sod everyone!

notso · 23/04/2010 18:45

I don't think it's poncey, Dh said it should be Bo for a girl but that makes me think of Body Odour.
Just realised though it sound quite crap with our surname which begins with O.

Use it for me CinderellaRach

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 18:44

It's a redneck/hillbilly name.

lilolilmanchester · 23/04/2010 18:44

great name for a grown up American film star. I don't dislike the name, but unless you are rich and/or famous yourself, I don't think your child would thank you for it.

going · 23/04/2010 18:43

I think it's the oppostie of poncey - really awful name!
