i like it! but then i like unusual names

largeginandtonic · 24/04/2010 08:34

I have a Beau. He is almost 3. 14 weeks after he was born blardy Emma Bunton named her son Beau She must lurk here...

Now flippin Louise Redknapp has a Beau too!

I love his name. People often do this face when we tell them.

We don't care.

Do it

Runoutofideas · 24/04/2010 08:24

The only Beau I know is an English 50 something gay man - it's not his real name - he chose it himself. Seems to suit him though....

Louindevon · 24/04/2010 08:22

I know a little boy who is called Beau, and although I wouldn't choose it (I'm a traditionalist....), I like it and I think it suits him.

His little sister is called Belle....

bellissima · 24/04/2010 08:00

Doesn't Ulrika-ka-ka have a Bo? Maybe it's not so naff if you are Scandinavian. My fave Scandy name - Ib.

But Beau - no. You wouldn't call a child 'Handsome' in case he wasn't (and in fact even if he were).

QueenThistle · 24/04/2010 06:46

I kinda like it aswell.

Then again I like Beau Bridges so may be biased

nooka · 24/04/2010 06:16

Beauregard is pretentious. Beau is I think at the other end of the scale, and Bo is really seriously naff.

LadyThompson · 24/04/2010 06:00

I like the sound of that sign. Enigmatic, threatening.

Oh, and I like Beau. I think it's rather charming, myself. But I am not American.

mathanxiety · 24/04/2010 05:07

I knew a Beau who owned a junkyard/ car parts lot in a blue collar suburb of a small midwestern US city. There was a sign on the fence that said "Protected by shotgun 4 days a week. U guess what days."

coralanne · 24/04/2010 04:35

My DN is Beau. Georgeous looking 13 year old boy.

His brother is Toby. Also georgeous looking with all the girls chasing after him.

Magaly · 23/04/2010 23:35

because it's all coming at us in one direction.

once upon a time madison and page were American names. now they're both in the uk top 100

ohnororo · 23/04/2010 22:57

I like Beau. And you don't live in Texas do you? So who cares if it's a redneck name there.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 23/04/2010 22:56

My cousin (21, somewhat "interesting looking" ) is Beau....I love it! it suits him perfectly!

love Love LOVE LOVE it

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 22:55

onebatmother · 23/04/2010 22:51

PiratePrincess · 23/04/2010 22:46

SmellsLikeTeenSweat · 23/04/2010 22:41

Magaly · 23/04/2010 22:23

oh god, I'm picturing a sweaty fat bow with a mullet in a t-shirt saying 'guns don't kill people, people kill people'.

shudder.

Magaly · 23/04/2010 22:22

no, it's just odd. I'm sorry but the similarity between BO (body odour) and Beau is just toooooooooo close.

CrankyTwanky · 23/04/2010 20:23

i like it.
i like poncey names
ergo, tis poncey

way i see it, someone has to name their children poncey names, may as well be us eh?

sorry 4 typing-bfng

padraig · 23/04/2010 19:59

It is kind of pretentious.

However that doesn't mean it's not a nice name.

I actually really like it, but if it were me I would use Beau as a middle name and call the DS that but give him a different first name, that way he has options for later life.

usualsuspect · 23/04/2010 19:55

I kinda like it *disclaimer for downthecreek I do not have a son called Beau

fairylights · 23/04/2010 19:15

I know a young man called Beau who is now in his early 20s and i have known him since he was born. As a little boy it did seem a bit pretentious but he did go to a posh school so it might not have stuck out so much. Now he is training to be a vet, and spends all his time ice-climbing and other daredevil activities..and it seems to suit him brilliantly!
