3 syllable girl's name needed please!

hi, I've name changed because DS's name is quite unusual and I don't want people to work out who I am!

DS is Theodore and we've just found out we're expecting a DD

so, oh wise ladies of MN, what would you suggest for her please? My preference would be for a 3 syllable name that has the option to shorten for a nn

thanks all

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cyteen · 24/04/2010 19:24

Ariana and Emiliana are both favourites of mine. I think you should go for Emiliana actually since I could never use it with my long surname

OrangePetal · 24/04/2010 19:11

sorry TS, I love the names of your DDs but I guess we just have different tastes in girls' names

sweetkitty... all of those names are obviously beautiful ooh but actually, I do really like Ariana

cyteen so childish but I definitely can't use Analina now so at least you've helped by knocking one off the list for us!

albs fancy seeing you here Hmm, Jessica is another possiblity I hadn't considered

Just realised, this naming thing is a potential minefield!! There are potentially three close friends/family who are due before me so if they all have girls, what's the betting they all pinch our best three names?!

I've reread last few posts and noticed Emiliana.... now this I do like! thanks albs, another one on the list!

Hi Sweetkitty!

Just shedding a tear since none of mine where likable. I'm so terrible with names. Suppose that's why it took 9 whole months to come up with both mine.

Still loving Theodore & Jacinda. Much better than Priscilla, right??? Still like that too though.

Why three syllables?

alittlebitshy · 24/04/2010 18:33

sweetkitty do we know what you are calling your ds?!

OP - well, Jessica falls into that category too. a rather spiffing name i feel But it is being used even more than theodore is now . when we chose it we hadn't come across toooooo many (plus it had a family link)

oopsandbabycoconut · 24/04/2010 17:56

Harriet yoursurname - reminds me of Harriet Harmon

sweetkitty · 24/04/2010 17:51

My favs:

Imogen
Isabella (which would have been DD4)
Abigail
Ariana
Bethany
Susannah
Talia
Maria

My DDs are in that lot so be nice

CSWS - am already looking forward to the great dizzy name debate

alittlebitshy · 24/04/2010 16:27

am loling at harriet yoursurname. a friend of ours with the same surname liked the name our ds has but same issue...

cecily
annabel (nn bell not anna?)
emiliana
rebecca
cassandra
abigail

er er er

cyteen · 24/04/2010 15:47

Because it contains the word 'anal' and thus tickled my ridiculously juvenile sense of humour Too much Viz, I fear.

OrangePetal · 24/04/2010 15:44

Harriet Anyothersurname=lovely

Harriet Mysurname=Enid Blyton and therefore off the list!

you still haven't confessed why Analina made you snurk though... do i need to get my interrogation lamp out?

OP posts:
cyteen · 24/04/2010 15:37

lol, you haven't upset me Have I been terse-typing again? And fwiw I agree that Harriet Yourname is very Enid Blyton and thus not my cuppa tea, I just didn't want you to be put off using a name you liked

OrangePetal · 24/04/2010 15:35

analina...oh yes! so it is! oops!

oh cyteen, sorry, didn't mean to upset you! I think you've put your finger on the Harriet thing though... it definitely reminds me of a character from a book that enid blyton would have written!

OP posts:
cyteen · 24/04/2010 15:21

THEE-odore and BEE-atrice, same emphasis on similar sounds. Also Theo and Bea a bit 'Timmy and Tammy' for my ears. But I really dislike the name Beatrice anyway so am not exactly an objective voice.

Anal-ina? It's in your list under Aralina.

We will have to agree to disagree re. Harriet Yourname. To me it sounds classic in a children's literature kind of way. Even Hattie Yourname works well.

OrangePetal · 24/04/2010 15:15

hmm, good point boogeek... i might stick with orangePetal though, i kind of like it!

cyteen... too matching how?

Arabel is a good one

why did Analina make you snurk? [don't gettit emoticon!] Although it was actually Aralina i suggested!

oh Harriet would definitely be ridiculous! you're a misguided fool (in the nicest possible way!)

OP posts:
cyteen · 24/04/2010 15:07

Theodore and Beatrice are too matchy for my liking.

How about Arabel instead of Annabelle, if you don't want Anna?

Analina made me snurk in a most juvenile fashion, sorry Juliana is lovely though

I don't think Harriet would be at all ridiculous with your surname

boogeek · 24/04/2010 15:06

LOL hello let's be friends
Only you are going to disappear back to your normal username and I will be left forever wondering...

orangePetal · 24/04/2010 15:04

i thought the 'wider audience' line was a good one

right, i'll go through the posts one by one and give you my favourites here so...in no particular order

Eleanor.... but agree, Roosevelt link possibly puts a stop on that one

Allegra....i like this for its unusuability... actuallymynamesmarina...how many are in your DD's class?

Sophia...maybe... not 100% this is going on the list for DH

Bethany... again..another maybe

Beatrice.. yup, def like this one! I think it goes particularly well with DS's name

Anabelle.. this was our original list (it had one name on it!) but I'm not sure about the nn 'anna' purely because of an anna I used to know

Jacqueline.. i think i like this one...not 100% though but its more than a maybe!

Harriet.. love this but would be ridiculous with our surname

Ariane... again, like this for being unusual

Amelia... I love this but aren't there a thousand little Amelias in the world now? I just get the feeling this has suddenly become very popular. Its actually a name that's been in my family for years (ancestors, not current) so it would be great to use it

Agatha... my first thought was 'no' but actually, its on the maybe list!

Jemima... yup, this is now on the list for DH to look at

Carrieanne..maybe..

Annalise... yup but again not sure about the 'anna' nn which would be inevitable!

Araminta... love this one!!

Antonia... love this one as well...in fact it was on the list from DS

Penelope...yup, yet another maybe..actually, its a bit more than just a maybe

ooh now Arrabella is a definite alternative to my other favourite of Anabella but without the anna nn...this is on the list!

Amara.. yet another usual one, on the list!

Matilda... i really like this name but not sure i can use it, mum used to have a dog called Matilda... what do you wise ladies of mn think?

Gabrielle.... maybe

its quite funny looking at the suggested names because most of my female relativess are accounted for, as are the names that my mum wanted to call me (instead of the one that my father actually ended up registering )

i've now got a couple for you to mock/comment on...

Juliana... v similar to close relatives who will def see baby lots, older generation though so not sure if this matters?

Aralina... love this but think I may have invented it as a name?

Analina... but yup, you've guessed it... don't like the anna nn

NB...sorry to all the "Annas" out there, its not the name as such, just the connection to an anna i used to know

so dizz does that make the barrel a little smaller and the fish a little bigger?

dizzydixies · 24/04/2010 14:05

to you & your wider audience!!

What do you like so far, like shooting fish in a barrell here lol

OrangePetal · 24/04/2010 11:47

to the girls who are upset...i was just seeking a wider audience than you lot! But sssh you'll wreck my cunning disguise! (although I've probably done a good enough job of that myself without any help!)

I am loving the suggestions on here! You've all come up with so many lovely ones, we're spoilt for choice now!

boogeek... had a bit of a search and I don't think we do know each other... hi though, i'm sure you're lovely

oh and no worries re hijack, you two just carry on, I don't mind!
