3 syllable girl's name needed please!

hi, I've name changed because DS's name is quite unusual and I don't want people to work out who I am!

DS is Theodore and we've just found out we're expecting a DD

so, oh wise ladies of MN, what would you suggest for her please? My preference would be for a 3 syllable name that has the option to shorten for a nn

thanks all

I like Sophia, but am never too sure on the pronunciation as some folk round here say S'phia and some say So-phia.

I have a Bethany, who sometimes gets Beth, but I like both.

I like Harriet, Juliet, Eleanor and Annabel.
Good luck!

ActuallyMyNamesMarina · 29/04/2010 14:54

OrangePetal - there are 3 Theodores, although, 2 are shortened to Theo......it is a fab name

If you like Araline, what about Arbella? She was nearly Queen back in the Tudor day, I quite like it....

alittlebitshy · 29/04/2010 14:37

did i suggest Sophia?

my dd has a list for you OP. i have forgotten what is on it though so will get her to remind me... surprisingly good names on it though

OrangePetal · 29/04/2010 08:13

hi reshape... I always call him Theodore but most family/friends call him Theo
hmm, maybe Sophia needs to go on the list. it was suggested earlier but its growing on me now!

Boogeek - I think you were thinking of me! Have name-changed. Was MamaGoblin. So, was I right?

And no, I don't know if we're having a DD, but yes, I am. Just.

OrangePetal · 28/04/2010 17:19

cyteen i've never heard of it but perhaps he is, who knows!

OrangePetal · 28/04/2010 15:44

Alaina, Inara and Yoghurt are on his list

gawd i had a list of names for you last night but now i fear it might have been in a dream .

sophia
angela
eliza
serena

er er

sweetkitty · 25/04/2010 08:58

Dizzy - I think we are about 95% there, I'm telling you boys names are much harder than girls

orangepetal - we have a very boring one syllable name, in fact one of the boys names I liked I went off as there is a boy with the exact same name in DD2's nursery class and at DD1's school, thought that was a bit too popular. Our surname is quite harsh as well especially with our accent so wanted something longer to balance it out. Am also intrigued as to who you are now. I am always lurking on the baby names threads, dizzy's DD3 and mine are the same age so we had long debates. Nice to see she is copying me though and having number 4

Back to names we also considered

Leona/Leonie
Marissa
Romilly (but have an R surname)
Rebecca
Jessica (not too keen on Jessie though)
Melissa
Elizabeth (I know it's 4 but you can have loads of lovely nicknames)
Francesca

Oh whoever asked am 38+4 today, if he doesn't make an appearance by himself I am being induced this time for the first time, combination of very fast labours and SPD.

SoMuchToBits · 25/04/2010 00:21

If you like Eliana but want 3 syllables, how about Elanya? I know a child with this name.

Also have just thought of Violet, Ebanie,
Ahkarsha, Latifah, Sabrina, Richenda, Eliza, Louisa, Naomi, Patricia, Madeleine, Rosina, Zynitah, Patina, Lilian, Alynda, Harmony,

all these names are in my family tree.

busymummy3 · 25/04/2010 00:08

No I agree I always think of a little old grey /blue rinse lady sat knitting in her armchair! but however it could be shortened to Millie if that appeals(no again to me like but you never know!)

padraig · 25/04/2010 00:03

Oh. Funny, I could have sworn Millicent was the name of someone who was evil.

Either way. If it sounds like the name of an evil supervillain/witch/badguy, is it really a name you'd like your DD to have?

busymummy3 · 24/04/2010 23:52

No padraig I think you will find that the name of the evil witch is Malificent if my memory watching this at least 3000 times serves me right !!! LOL!!!

padraig · 24/04/2010 23:32

Millicent was the name of the evil witch that put Sleeping Beauty to sleep with a poisoned spindle, if I remember the story correctly (well the Disney version anywho).

Sorry, it does make me think of pure undiluted evile whenever I hear it now :s
