Hi, i'm due another little lady soon who i am planning to name Daisy-Mae or Daisy-May. I already have a 2 year old called Lexie-Rose so I definately want the hyphen in there.

Do you like Daisy-Mae or Daisy-May?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Magaly · 23/04/2010 20:12

I just bothered!

mathanxiety · 23/04/2010 20:12

You have the wrong idea about the internet, apparently, if you think you can hide behind your moniker and say (or shout) anything you feel just because it's the internet and you have strong opinions.

"Since when did the act of naming your child put your taste in childrens' names beyond reproach? This is the internet. If I think your child has a stupid name then quite frankly I will tell you" -- is a rather arrogant attitude.

Why do you think anyone cares enough about the names you mentioned to bother abusing you about them?

Magaly · 23/04/2010 20:10

No I totally hear you. I like, todally hear you Cassidy. Because if you want people to say 'mmmm that's lovely' then ask a neighbour or the woman behind you in the queue in Sainsbury's. If you want strong but subjective and emotive responses ask your family. And if you want HONESTY, go to an online forum that hasn't become too nicey nicey.

Magaly · 23/04/2010 20:09

Lorelei should be spelt Lorelei not Lorelai. Finbar is a refreshing change from Finley. Like it. Ten points. Cassidy is nmsaa. For a girl or a boy? Sounds to me like the American perception of an Irish name. But it's not terrible. Some people would classify it the C word though. Priya. Eurhg. I know it's Indian for pretty but Yark. It's 'orrible.

padraig · 23/04/2010 20:08

I think the one message I would like people to get is to stop expecting people to be as nice and polite online as they are in real life.

It's hypocritical and it's not nice but hey that's life

Magaly · 23/04/2010 20:05

I agree with you up to a point because it annoys me a bit when on a thread about the name BLAH, a few posters pop up and say 'oooh my dc's name is blah". I then feel I can't be really honest about the name! Although, that wouldn't stop you I bet.

padraig · 23/04/2010 19:54

Oh dear.

a) Sorry if my posts seem abrasive because I don't pepper them with and all the time. I have strong opinions.

b) To the poster who was wondering if I am her father, no I am not

c) It very much amuses me that so many people thought I was being 'just ghastly' and that my post was deleted.

d) I DO NOT CARE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THIS THREAD HAVE CHILDREN CALLED DAISY. All my posts were in relation to the OP, who is thinking about calling her unborn child Daisy. I couldn't give a toss about the various women coming in and mentioning that their darling bundle of joy is called Daisy and therefore it's a great name.

Since when did the act of naming your child put your taste in childrens' names beyond reproach? This is the internet. If I think your child has a stupid name then quite frankly I will tell you. To be very honest you shouldn't post details about your life on the internet and then get sad or angry when people disagree with you.

Suffice to say that OP asked whether I liked Daisy-May and Daisy-Mae and all I did was to give my opinion and the reasoning behind it.

If it makes you feel any better, names that I personally am considering are Cassidy, Finbar, Lorelai and Priya so do feel free to tell me how much you hate those, don't worry I can take abuse from people over the internet quite well

usualsuspect · 23/04/2010 19:49

Yeah Yeah course I have

downthecreek · 23/04/2010 19:41

LOL usualsuspect you obviously have one. I sussed that a while back

oliviacrumble · 23/04/2010 19:40

Now I REALLY want an emoticon showing a twirly finger at a temple.

What a great idea mtmc!

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/04/2010 19:39

Errr, no, I didn't feel any burning desire to count posts

usualsuspect · 23/04/2010 19:37

Lol @ downthecreek >>Do you think that everyone who likes the name Daisy has a child called Daisy....

downthecreek · 23/04/2010 19:37

No I didn't count. It was a guess.

I bet you counted though to check

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/04/2010 19:30

Good grief - you mean you actually spent time counting the posts and assigning names to them, and then coming up with the number 40. You really did that?

I think a big fat (and a for good measure) is called for here. If there was an emoticon showing a twirly finger at a temple you'd have that too.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 19:24

What is this, redneck/hillbilly/Cajun night in the baby names topic?!

NO! NO! NO!

downthecreek · 23/04/2010 19:23

No, 10 out of about 40 people. 182 is the number of posts not the number of users Actually it's more like 15 out of 40.

If twisting the truth makes you feel better then go ahead.

If you don't like hearing honest opinions on your child's name then I suggest you don't read the thread.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/04/2010 19:17

At least 10 out of a whole 182. That's not a lot, is it?

downthecreek · 23/04/2010 19:14

I can see at least 10 people that think Daisy is a daft name. Myself included.

Obviously there are lot of mums with Daisys on here who don't like seeing their precious little princess's name slated.

downthecreek · 23/04/2010 19:10

If you read the whole thread you'll see that it's not just Padraig.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/04/2010 19:07

Daisy is just a normal name though. Daisy-Mae is the one that generated the heat (padriag excepted)

downthecreek · 23/04/2010 19:05

Obviously quite a lot of people don't think it's 'just a normal name' hence the heat.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/04/2010 18:59

Agree Magaly. It's such an innocuous name - but really had Padraig's knickers in a right old twist.

Magaly · 23/04/2010 18:52
  • tvm Maisie. I'm in the loop again.

Wouldn't have thought Daisy could incite such passion.. It's a normal name. Even if hyphenation on the bc, the child could always lose a portion of their name later in life.

Magaly · 23/04/2010 18:49

@ olivia

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/04/2010 17:04

It wasn't that bad actually, compared to some that appear on MN - something along the lines of people being too polite to comment on names, and if more said that they were horrible then less children would be saddled with awful names. If any of her friends told her they were naming their child Daisy then she would tell them it was awful - but she didn't know anyone daft enough to name their child Daisy. Awful grammar there, but 5 kids all trying to get my attention here.

I wonder if this message will be deleted?
