Have you seen the film 'Elf'?

anonymousbird · 10/11/2010 08:28

Hey? hadn't noticed the date - how did anyone revive this one?!?!? How funny.

muggglewump · 10/11/2010 07:46

This thread's from April.
I wonder if the OP is Jools?

If she is she clearly didn't take MN adviceGrin

anonymousbird · 10/11/2010 07:44

NOOOOO!!! Because everyone will say "Oh you named him after Jamie Oliver's boy".

DO NOT DO IT.

kidshurt · 10/11/2010 07:30

I have a husband called Lance and a son called Buddy!

Technoprisoners · 17/04/2010 21:38

Oh, close then, Drama . I think Chesney Hawkes was in Buddy's Song, wasn't he? Roger Daltrey as the dad in Buddy.

Terrible book, terrible film, truly awful name.

scottishmummy · 17/04/2010 21:11

buddy is a guid paisley name

catinboots · 17/04/2010 21:08

don't be so bloody ridiculous

Magaly · 17/04/2010 20:59

I thnk it sounds a tiny bit threatening. Like

"listen up Buddy I've had enough of your nonsense, stop aggravating me or we'll have to take this outside".

Or am I alone in hearing that hanging in the air after 'Buddy'?!?

OracleOfDelphinium · 17/04/2010 20:57

Cripes. No.

lovechoc · 17/04/2010 20:55

not liking it sorry.

missmoopy · 17/04/2010 20:49

Oh dear god NO!

BuzzingNoise · 17/04/2010 20:44

Not unless you are planning to do a runner and leave your son with an alocholic father who will turn to crime.

notquitenormal · 17/04/2010 20:42

Round here, 'Buddy' is what you get called by the guy in the pub whose pint you've just spilled and now he's about to punch you in the face.

DramaInPyjamas · 17/04/2010 20:40

@ Technoprisoners

Nope! Scotland. ;)

Rockbird · 17/04/2010 20:34

Buddy is one of the worst words in the English language. I have a friend who has a FB friend who leaves her little messages saying 'hi buddy'. It makes me want to kill people. As a name, no no no!

stleger · 17/04/2010 20:27

My dd1, who is 16, has known a 'Buddy' since preschool. He is really called Bernard, apparently, she only found out when they were getting exam numbers. He would be a good person to have on your side in a fight, according to dd1.

Technoprisoners · 17/04/2010 20:14

Lol Drama - that was a firm favourite in our dept. Go to school near Southampton by any chance??

mathanxiety · 17/04/2010 20:08

It's the boy version of 'sweetie' for a girl in the US. A bit like 'Junior' or 'Son'. So not a name, a generic term.

DramaInPyjamas · 17/04/2010 17:15

I wouldn't.

Always reminds me of the movie starring Chesney Hawkes that we had to watch at school EVERY TIME our English teacher was off ill (which was A LOT!)

cece · 17/04/2010 17:11

No to Buddy but I do like Lance and Sonny!

Yuck. Chip, Clay, Brick, Hank, Junior - get the idea?

nooka · 17/04/2010 05:31

OK as a nick name only. I knew a Lance, and didn't think of him having a bad name, but now it makes me think of lancing boils.

Nemain · 17/04/2010 00:01

For a dog it is cheesy.

For a child, no!
