What do people think of Willa for a girl?

My Mum HATES it and says it's really American-I love it - another problem is someone I kno win my village just called her new baby girl Willow-Ahhhhhhhh what are the chances?! I also like Willa-Rose or is that too much like a question e.g. Will a rose .......?

I was being serious-have not divulged any names so pure chance she called her baby a similar name-true about Willa sounding willow in london . I don't know any Willow's - we live in rural west country so not really heard it apart from celeb land in magazines. Fair point though.

My DD loves that 'Tell Me Something Happy Before I go to Sleep' book. That's got a Willa in it.

I think because Willow has got so popular, to say "Willa" would sound like you were saying Willow in a London accent. Like 'no I neva', 'I'm gonna', 'Oi Willa"

No, sorry, its a strange name, you have to think what other children may change it into later in life..kids can be cruel

Pronounced as in Will - a as in Willa Cather - she would just be Willa not Wilhelmina! Hmmmmm on first glance my Mum is setting a negative trend!

Willa (to rhyme with villa) is how most people would pronounce Willow in my neck of the woods. Just a thought.

Her Willa was short for Wilella. I could imagine it as a nn for Wilhelmina as well (ouch).

Otherwise, I suspect people will always hear Willow and you'll spend a lot of time correcting them.

How do you pronounce it?

My first thought was that she'll get called "Willy".

If it's pronounced "Villa", then it's the name of a football team.

Either way, I don't like it. Sorry.

I know a 6 month old baby called Willa. I had no idea of the origins, but thought it was very sweet when I first heard her name - and still do!
