My friend wants some feedback on the name Luna for a girl!

Awful. Lunatic. Loony Luna.

thumbwitch · 13/04/2010 14:31

I like it but would hesitate to use it because of the name-calling potential and the links to Harry Potter.

lovechoc · 13/04/2010 14:29

Love it - I'd choose that if I was having a girl (DH would probably have other ideas!).

Katy86 · 13/04/2010 14:26

i think its gorgeous!!

Drusilla · 11/04/2010 16:21

I have a friend in her thirties called Luna, but she is from Nepal - I gather it's not a particularly unusual name in that part of the world. I think it's lovely, but that's because my friend is.

vix206 · 11/04/2010 16:16

I think it is a beautiful name, I'd say go for it!

brockleybelle · 10/04/2010 21:04

Ecstaticmum, lol, i've now got the 'luna jim' theme song in my head. 'Luna' is a definite no-no for that reason alone!

ecstaticmumofeightplusfour · 10/04/2010 10:15

no think of luna jim and wacky girl in harry potter

moonbird · 09/04/2010 22:32

Beautiful! If they love it, then go for it.

kiwichika · 08/04/2010 21:07

Love it!!! But then it is what i named one of my Weimaraners

brockleybelle · 08/04/2010 08:00

haha ThisCharmingFlan - sound advice!

legallyblond · 07/04/2010 17:46

Hmm... my dog is called Luna! That said, I called her Luna because its a nice name (just not sure how nice for a daughter...)

AllieW · 07/04/2010 12:30

Not overly keen. I just think of lunar landings and lunar eclipse. I much prefer Diana/Diane which was the name of the moon goddess and so has similar connoitations without sounding so obviously moon-like.

ThisCharmingFlan · 07/04/2010 12:24

not if the surname begins with a 'C'.

Patsy99 · 07/04/2010 12:22

I really like it - I know an adult Indian (Punjabi Sikh) woman called Luna and once met a Spanish woman with the name. Maybe a bit unexpected if you're white British?

tyler80 · 07/04/2010 10:09

Lunacup is a different brand of the mooncup and lunapads are some sort of reuseable sanitary wear.

I'd avoid

DitaVonCheese · 07/04/2010 09:18

I like it. Also like Lena if she loses her nerve.

DomesticG0ddess · 07/04/2010 07:52

I do quite like it, but my friend has a dog called Luna, and it makes me think of that

telsa · 06/04/2010 23:38

I like this name, but I'd insist that the child was born during a wonderful bright full moon!

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 06/04/2010 23:03

Gorgeous

I read vic beckham lined this name up for her imaginary dd
but don't let that put your friend off

BessieBoots · 06/04/2010 22:53

Lovely!

SE13Mummy · 06/04/2010 22:52

I know a lovely 8-year-old Luna (has long brown hair so the blonde curls may not be linked to the name). It's not the sort of name I'd go for as I tend to opt for more mainstream names but it's a great name for the right person.

brockleybelle · 06/04/2010 22:30

Makes me think 'loony'.

Surprise · 06/04/2010 22:28

Jollster - why the asterisks in Frank Lampard? Is it something I don't know about?

pipinmybelly · 06/04/2010 22:19

i know a Luna...and I personally think it is really pretty...something id never use myself or would have thought of but pretty nonetheless
