AUDREY - Hepburn or Corrie?

I don't even know if I am having a girl, but I just love this name. However, my mum is a ridiculous soap watcher and I just know what her first comment would be. Which makes me think maybe other people would think of that old woman in Coronation Street (is she still in it, if not then perhaps that would help?).

I haven't come across any Audrey's at all. What do you think?

I think of Audrey Tatou who was in Amelie, my favourite film - and of course Audrey Hepburn, it seems to be a name for beautiful women!

passionberry · 07/04/2010 12:53

I think it's pretty. Must be due for a revival!

There's also Audrina which I also like.

gemcgem · 07/04/2010 12:43

hepburn! but one of the actors on corrie married to fizz ( i forgot his name) just named there little girl audrey !

AngryPixie · 07/04/2010 12:16

Beautiful
(although if I did have a fleeting flashback to Audrey Forbes-Hamilton but am showing my age)

GooseyLoosey · 07/04/2010 12:15

I think of the ostrich in 64 Zoo Lane. A sad sign of how much I have been indoctrinated by children's television.

AllieW · 07/04/2010 12:11

Aubrey IS a boy's name, although it has been hijacked for girls in recent years as has Rhys/Reece (owing to Reece Witherspoon, I think, although in her case it was her mother's maiden name and it is not really her first name, but that's by the by.).

But to get to the point, I associate Audrey with Audrey Hepburn. However, I'm not keen on the name. Partly because it was the name of a schoolfriend's mother who was not particularly pleasant and partly because I don't find it aesthetically pleasing. Sorry.

I think of my old flatmate and friend who was French - THE most chic/cool person I have ever known! I love it! Only thing is what would/could it be shortened to?

5DollarShake · 07/04/2010 10:03

Audrey is far, far preferable to Aubrey which to me is a boy's name. Although on googling that image, I did get a load of pictures of some tango-ed, blond acrylic-extensioned, pneumatic-titted woman, so perhaps it is a girl's name, too.

Audrey is far more elegant, though!

CheerfulYank · 07/04/2010 02:46

Love Audrey. It's popular here in America but not too popular. Of course we don't have Coronation Street here so I don't have that association. But very pretty IMO!

CelticStarlight · 07/04/2010 02:39

I think of the character Audrey in 24.

birdsandblossoms · 06/04/2010 21:28

at the risk of outing myself Audrey is my name and i love it and alwys have not sure if my Mum named me after Audrey Hepburn i was born in the early 60s. i love the song by Bread Aubrey and always insist that it should be Audrey as i though Aubrey ws a boys name

preggersplayspop · 06/04/2010 21:24

I think of Audrey Tatou also, who is very beautiful. A friend of a friend is called Audrey and whenever she is referred to I have never thought of Corrie.

PlumSykes · 06/04/2010 21:22

I love it, but friend was reduced to tears last month the day after her DD was born, by her MIL telling her that Audrey is the name for a nasty old battleaxe of a woman. She was too upset to use the name, and has gone for something equally pretty.

I still think it's lovely though!

Shaz10 · 06/04/2010 21:18

I thought Little Shop of Horrors. I love that film! Also love the name.

BettyButterknife · 06/04/2010 21:03

Lovely. Was on my shortlist, but this bump is a boy alas.

I don't watch Corrie so my only associations are Audreys Hepburn and Tatou - both lovely.

My Grandma is called Audrey and I love it!

juneybean · 06/04/2010 20:54

Neither, I actually adore it!

5DollarShake · 06/04/2010 20:46

Definitely time for a revival.

Audrey Tautou is beautiful, too.

ilovepiccolina · 06/04/2010 20:46

Hepburn.

I'm a Corrie fan but didn't make the connection, so that must be good!

mathanxiety · 06/04/2010 20:44

Hepburn to me. I think 50s chic -- I love the name.

fairybubbles · 06/04/2010 20:43

My first thought was how lovely. It's a very nice name.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 06/04/2010 20:12

Hepburn everytime

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 06/04/2010 20:12

Hepburn - and a lovely older lady I know who is vibrant, funny and intelligent.
I think it is a beautiful name

NonnoMum · 06/04/2010 19:53

We had a French student stay with us a few years ago with that name. She was intelligent and lovely and languid. Have loved that name since.
