AUDREY - Hepburn or Corrie?

I don't even know if I am having a girl, but I just love this name. However, my mum is a ridiculous soap watcher and I just know what her first comment would be. Which makes me think maybe other people would think of that old woman in Coronation Street (is she still in it, if not then perhaps that would help?).

I haven't come across any Audrey's at all. What do you think?

Corrie.

I like most smell-of-wee chic names. But Audrey - no. It's also the name of one of those men badly dressed up as women (they still have beards) on the bounty ad. the other one is brenda. Audrey is more Brenda than Tatou or Hepburn.

BUT... despite all that, the children wouldn't see it like that. So it's not a terrible name.

Audra is a nice name, Audrina a bit fussy.

DomesticG0ddess · 04/05/2010 18:12

Oooh, yes Audra is nice. Someone also mentioned Audrina, what do people think of that?

Hepburn! Not Corrie!

I love the name Audrey. I also know an Audra which I also love and would avoid the whole Corrie thing.

Ineedsomesleep · 16/04/2010 09:20

Audrey also reminds me of Audrey Tautou.

boodleboot · 14/04/2010 17:31

hello DG

i LOOVE Audrey. definitely due a revival....

Magaly · 14/04/2010 17:29

bounty ad.

brenda and audrey

twolittlemonkeys · 14/04/2010 15:42

I like it a lot. Would think of Hepburn, don't follow Corrie.

whippybamboo · 14/04/2010 15:40

Audrey is a very classy name

DomesticG0ddess · 14/04/2010 13:46

megonthemoom, I also really like Veronica! But I don't like the nn of Ronnie - with the babies surname it would be v masculine! Infact it is difficult to find names to go with my husbands surname!

I also went to school with a girl called Audrey and she was lovely

Iklboo · 14/04/2010 13:00

Little Shop of Horrors too. Actress is great - she played Sylar's mum in Heroes

(Suddenly Sylar.....)

megonthemoon · 14/04/2010 12:58

It's on my shortlist if my bump proves to be a girl DH and I are known for our taste in old lady names though (Olive also on the shortlist, and he's trying to persuade me about Veronica!)

Audrey from Corrie will be gone and forgotten in a few years, whereas Hepburn won't.

I also love the meaning - "noble strength" which I think is a great meaning for a girl. I would rather any daughter I have be strong and self-assured rather than girly and princessy, and want to give a name which links with that IYSWIM.

Ineedsomesleep · 14/04/2010 12:44

Do love Audrey but I do think of Corrie before Hepburn.

birdofthenorth · 14/04/2010 12:22

Hepburn. Love it.

Audie as a nn.

DomesticG0ddess · 13/04/2010 22:03

I still love it, have not mentioned it to DH yet. Or indeed any name - I still have 8 weeks to go til my 20 week scan!

I would just think of my auntie Audrey who I love to bits! I never connect it with Corrie.

I was at school with a Audrey in the 60s and thought it was odd having an 'auntie' type name when everyone else was Susan or Linda! Never come across anyone since.

ozmetric · 11/04/2010 17:23

I don't watch Corrie so I'd say Hepburn

mummalish · 11/04/2010 11:05

I love love love love Audrey and it is on the top of my list for a girl. However, my DH hates it, and says it reminds him of Audrey Chawner. I could cry.

rosieposey · 10/04/2010 20:43

I love love love this name, i had suggested it for DC5 if we have one and if she is a girl (can you tell my mind is made up already? But DH doesnt like it much, however i think i might be able to bring him around should the occasion demand.

Its the most lovely name and its not particularly common.

KAEKAE · 10/04/2010 20:41

Hate it sorry...and does remind me of Corrie...and Hepburn, just old lady not very flattering name IMO.

Caro1302 · 10/04/2010 20:38

I know of 3 Audreys in their 20s/30s and they're all attractive girls. In each case their unusual name seems to add something a bit glamorous to them.

swanandduck · 09/04/2010 16:37

Sorry, don't like it. For some reason it reminds me of really old fashioned boarding school stories, there always seemed to be a character called Audrey in those.
