Rilleigh for a girl yes/no

We are having a little girl due in July and DP adores the name Rilliegh (pronounced rilley or rilee) I'm not sure, what do you all think?? Please be honest. Thanks

I like the name Riley for a girl. I grew up with a girl called Riley and always thought it beautiful. I think the spelling is a bit over the top though, speaking as someone whose parents thought they'd make me unique by giving a twist on the spelling to my name. I absolutely hate giving my name as I always have to spell it out.

Wow Mumsnetters are so ridiculously reactionary about names. If, for example, a new up and coming author came on to do a live web chat and she was called Rilleigh Jones, they wouldn't bat an eyelid.

I think it's nice. She would have to pronounce and spell it all the time (though I got the right pronounciation straight away) but that need not be a major problem. My ds has a name which usually needs to be pronounced for people. He doesn't mind and the people close to him all know it.

You people seriously lack imagination when it comes to name threads and I'm sure you can't ALL live in Surbiton.

But maybe the OP will find it useful - ppl do tend to say on here what ppl won't say to your face but are secretly thinking.

It looks it should be pn like Rhyl (as in the Welsh town) followed by Lee.

Imo however it is spelt, it's a boy's name.

well, it has precedent as a name - rilliegh kronebusch is a snow mobiler (google v useful) so i take back my initial response - it's not a name. However, it is dreadful on first hearing. I have been persuaded out of preghead choices such as elvis; presley; mackenzie; sterling; skye etc so can totally have sympathy for how a name sounds to you as opposed to a non pregnant with your child person

No need to attack the OP, after all it's her DP that loves the name, and she's admitted she's not sure.

Maybe she's posted a thread on here to give her ammunition to persuade him it's really not a good idea to use the name. There's only so far you can go to please your man!

Looks like we've all scared her off though...

And the double LL might make people say it like rilly (as in rhyming with Milly).

Nooooo. Please don't do it. The double L definitely makes it seem like it should rhyme with willy. Use the conventional spelling if you really love the name that much.
