Whats so bad about Thea?

Currently expecting dd no.3. Other dd's are Grace Margaret and Ava Ruby. My maiden name was Theobald so was rooting for Theodore if having a boy in honour of that side of my family but since its a girl am very much liking Thea instead. Dh has vetoed it saying its too "out there" for us! Is it really too different to use with Grace and Ava? Am waiting for him to get home from work to inform him my cousin has just named his daughter Roccoco Rose and thats clearly more "out there" than Thea!!!

Yes like Cranky, I think it's nice, but a bit normal for me. It's one of those names that was a bit unusual and cool 5 years ago and will probably get more common. Not "out there" at all.

(Roccoco however is bananas)

No mpore out there than Ava imo. We were going to use Thea for DC2 but he was a boy. I think it is lovely.

Alternatively you could go for

Althea
Alathea

which we also considered.

Harlow is definately too 'out there'! We live in Essex, a definate no-no

Have toyed with Vivien DebiNewberry but not sure it goes with our surname. I have two Laurens in the family already and dd2's best friend is Sophia! Im finding it hard to pick something that someone we know hasnt already nabbed!

Plonker - Mia is lovely and one I shortlisted for dd1, sadly dh didnt like it and since then every other child around here is Mia or Maya, dd2 has 4 at her nursery!

We did actually name the first two with Grace Kelly and Ava Gardener in mind but having searched for another classic hollywood starlet, Im coming up short. I have to pick a short name too - our surname is very long and very unusual!

Not in the least bit 'out there' . . . lovely name IMO, and sits nicely in the middle between 'very unusual - no-one will know how to spell it' and 'very popular - 15 of them in the class at school'. I would have said if anything that it is more well known than Ava.
I would probably give either Theodora or Dorothea as a full name though.

Thea is beautiful ...and not 'out there' at all!

The only time I would say not to Thea is if you have a 'Th...' surname as it would sound as though you had a lisp

It's not out there at all. And I think it's very pretty - not matronly at all, I know a gorgeous little thea.
