Ivy, Iris or Fern?

Which do you think is best? These are our top contenders at the moment.
Can you think of anything similar? I don't want a popular name or one that will date.

Iris

Lonnie · 01/04/2010 12:44

I would go with Iris myself next Ivy Fern is quite popular so if you want to avoid popular I wouldnt use it

if you like flower names and want to avoid popular on the top 100 list of 2009 was

Lily/Lilly Holly/Hollie Poppy and Rose

xandrarama · 01/04/2010 12:29

I love Ivy! Wanted it for DD but DH said it sounded too old-lady-ish. I am still sulking inwardly.

BallpointPen · 01/04/2010 11:34

Out of those I'd go for Fern. I'm not really into all the old lady names.

AllieW · 01/04/2010 11:11

Iris is by far the nicest. Ivy is ok, but I don't like the poison ivy connoitations. I've never been keen on Fern.

tummytickler · 01/04/2010 10:45

I have a 9 year old Iris so that is my favourite. Fern is lovely, but I do think of Fern Cotton, which is a shame. Ivy is OK - I know quite a lot of Ivy's though, it is my least favourite.
Love Hazel - we would consider this for another dd. Marnie is also very cute.

SE13Mummy · 01/04/2010 10:19

I like Ivy and Iris but am not keen on Fern. FWIW I have taught two girls named Ivy (one now 6, the other 16) and neither have been teased with the 'poison' taunt... in the case of the older girl it was possibly because her uber-urban peers had no idea what it was!

pitterpatterfeet · 01/04/2010 09:28

Ivy!

SqueezyB · 01/04/2010 09:24

I like them all, though unfortunately Fern just makes me think of Fern Cotton/Fern Britton now. So I'd probably go:

1.Iris
2.Ivy
3.Fern

Nyx · 31/03/2010 23:38

There's an Iris in DD's nursery group. I like Fern best, although all are nice. Not as keen on Ivy, with the 'poison' connotations though.

lotster · 31/03/2010 23:36

Lovely choices, I prefer:

1.Iris
2.Fern
3.Ivy

SirBoobAlot · 31/03/2010 23:35

I like all of them, but Ivy is my favourite

LynetteScavo · 31/03/2010 23:33

I like Iris best.

thecoffeelady · 31/03/2010 23:30

I love Iris and considered it for dd and also for dc on the way, I love the song Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls, DP vetoed it in a blink.

JaynieB · 31/03/2010 23:30

Iris. I heard a little girl called Marnie recently and thought that sounded lovely.

ozmetric · 31/03/2010 23:29

I like Ivy but not the other two.

completelyshotpelvicfloor · 31/03/2010 22:19

Don't like any of them - old lady names conjuring up all sorts of horrible thoughts! Probably just my age. If you want a flower type name what about Saffron or Willow?

DuelingFanjo · 31/03/2010 22:14

Iris

piscesmoon · 31/03/2010 22:12

I think poison Ivy, clinging Ivy so don't think it sweet! Hazel is much nicer than any of the suggested ones.

telsa · 31/03/2010 22:00

Ivy is very sweet and conjures up a nice image of a flower, rather than a bit of the eye - which will only get more prevalent with Iris Recognition systems at airports. Fern is good - simple, a nod to the most ancient bit of foliage there is. Unusual too - I haven't met any ever.

seashore · 31/03/2010 20:43

I'd second Hazel we considered it too, it's a beautiful name.

DinahRod · 31/03/2010 20:41
  1. Iris
  2. Fern
  3. Ivy
preggersplayspop · 31/03/2010 20:39

I really like Iris, not keen on others. Fern is ok I suppose.

notsochickchickchicken · 31/03/2010 20:39

Difficult choice I love them all but if I had to pick an order it would be Iris, Ivy then Fern.

tootootired · 31/03/2010 20:34

Iris is great.

You are going botanical but not flowers: Hazel? I heard it on the radio this morning and thought what a lovely name.
