What do you think of Saskia as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

"who is going to remember Saskia From Big Brother in ten (or five for that matter) years?"

I will. I wouldn't use the name because I wouldn't like to have a child with a name that reminded me of BB Saskia.

It's not that I'd worry about other people having that association. There are names I just don't like because I mainly associate them with people I didn't like. That's how I feel about Saskia.

I have a friend who went on a reality TV dating show. She and the guy got on pretty well but there was no spark, end of story. I've never seen the programme but I believe it made her out to be a crazy psycho who basically stalked the guy.

I'm sure Saskia from BB is very nice. As I remember she was very beautiful. But how she was portrayed is how I remember her and that was not pleasant - she came across as a thick bully.

littlemissm · 01/04/2010 20:36

It is a horrible word anyway. And one too easy to fall into the trap of using. Actually the fact that she was a racist was the issue, not whether she was from Essex, or whatever.

Saskia has lots of black friends including my husband & she is not from Essex but Kingston upon Thames surrey.

Ineedsomesleep · 01/04/2010 19:11

I wouldn't have thought of the BB link, but then I don't watch it.

Magaly · 01/04/2010 18:17

I've no idea which bb "saskia from bb" is from, but the viewing figures had fallen to a very low figure last year, so it's not an automatic link.

MortaIWombat · 01/04/2010 18:13

Rembrandt's wife. And my old art teacher's dog (in the 80s....)

Only chavs say that people who watch BB are chavs.

I mean it is ridiculous.

Ineedsomesleep · 01/04/2010 17:13

Didn't say there was anything wrong with the eighies, from the bit I can remember it was a great decade!

OtterInaSkoda · 01/04/2010 16:53

Nothing wrong with 80s, needsome

OtterInaSkoda · 01/04/2010 16:52

It's lovely. BB didn't occur to me - but even if it had, who is going to remember Saskia From Big Brother in ten (or five for that matter) years?

Ineedsomesleep · 01/04/2010 16:46

Very 80s.

Magaly · 01/04/2010 16:45

only chavs watch big brother.........

Magaly · 01/04/2010 16:44

I like it. It's pretty but girly or weak. It's unusual but heard of and people know how to spell it. could be sasha as a nick name which is nice too.

Fimbow · 01/04/2010 16:28

Saskia is a lovely name. It is my niece's middle name, named after the nurse in Hamburg who delivered her after a very, long and difficult labour for my sil.

Shaz10 · 01/04/2010 16:28

Quoted from Saskia's audition tape: "I don't like people coming into the country. I cannot generalise, but they all want to kill us, bomb us and they call us names."

Saskia from BB for me too - I will always remember uber-posh Derek's comment about her when she was screeching at someone (littlemissm - all we can go on when watching that shower of exhibitionists is what we see on camera! ): she's like a half-trained polecat up an East End alley.

Put me off the name, but there will be loads of people who don't have that association.

littlemissm · 01/04/2010 16:00

To put a few people straight Saskia frm BB is not at all chavvy & lotster she certainly is not a brass. How do i know this because she is a friend of my husbands & has been for many yrs & the person who said she was racist what aload of crap. Regardless of the way she came across on BB you people do not know her so you shouldnt be so judgemental.

Heliosba · 31/03/2010 22:15

Saskia is on my list, I like it.

lol

AntoinetteOuradi · 31/03/2010 19:37

Is common the same as chavvy? It's certainly common as in 'heard rather too often'. Rather a shame, really.

msrisotto · 31/03/2010 19:35

Lockets - it doesn't really put me off, besides, for me it's all very hypothetical!
