Hello,

Just wondering what you thought of Albert (with nickname Albie) or Arthur for a boy? Arthur I like as a full name, but not so keen on the nn Art (any other suggestions?) whereas I love Albie and just a bit unsure of Albert!

Thankyou!

I had Albert on my list but DH rejected suggestion on account of slang for willy piercing (Prince Albert).

henry37 · 03/04/2010 20:52

arthur much better imo.

eatyourveg · 02/04/2010 10:33

Albert is so much more versatile and he can do what he wants with it when he's older. Lumber him with Arthur and he'll only have Art for an alternative option when he becomes a disgruntled teenager wishing his parents had not been so hard on him

Divatheshopaholic · 01/04/2010 22:11

Albert gets my vote.

lucy567 · 01/04/2010 22:06

Albert much nicer, love Albie as nn.

lovechoc · 01/04/2010 18:35

I personally don't like either - but if I had to choose I'd probably go with Arthur.

hippopo · 01/04/2010 18:28

I have a nephew called Albert and think it is a lovely name. His nickname keeps changing sometimes Albie sometimes Bert or Bertie.

SqueezyB · 01/04/2010 11:28

I prefer Arthur, but I have met about 3 of them in the last 6 months so I think it's an on-the-up kind of name.

Albert not so sure, but agree Bertie is a fab NN!

Sophie78 · 01/04/2010 10:13

sorry that diddnt look right.... pronounced ARFEE

Sophie78 · 01/04/2010 10:11

I LOVE ARTHUR! its on my shortlist for a boy, although DP is not keen. It was my late grandads name, he was nicknamed Arthie (pronounced Arfie), so you could shorten it. I am not keen on the NN of Art though, doesnt sound right.

notsochickchickchicken · 31/03/2010 22:26

Albert, it has so much potential,
Albie is nice for a little one,
Al/Ali suits a teen,
Albert for when he's Prime Minister,
Bert for when he's retired.

completelyshotpelvicfloor · 31/03/2010 22:23

Albert - wonderful - you could consider "Bertie" as a diminutive?

poutine · 31/03/2010 22:15

sorry but neither. I think it would sound as if it had been chosen purely to try and be 'different'.

usualsuspect · 31/03/2010 20:06

neither

AnnieGG · 31/03/2010 20:05

Arthur.

jellybeans · 31/03/2010 19:02

Albert much nicer.

bouverie · 31/03/2010 16:26

Don't understand the popularity of either, but Albie is really cute.

witchwithallthetrimmings · 31/03/2010 16:08

Ds has a similar name and my mum refused to use it for at least a year. Ds was always referred to as "he" or "your boy". Now she has got used to it. But honestly walk into any primary school and most of the names (albert, stanley, ruby, grace, sidney) are all straight out of catherine cookson. There is nobody in ds class called john or peter or jane

LouMacca · 31/03/2010 15:58

Between the two it would be Albert (Bertie)

Arthur is awful IMO.

Pasiphae · 31/03/2010 14:55

Love Arthur. It's got more "punch" than Albert. But I really like the Albie nickname for Albert.
Artie for Arthur?

gemcgem · 31/03/2010 14:50

iv got a Albert an he's 9 , i love it we call him al .

sparkleshine · 31/03/2010 14:28

I have to slighty agree with you allyfe, i dont like arthur or albert or wilfred or ernest or any other 'old' name.
But if i HAD to choose, it would be arthur.

My DP cousin called her boy Alban which i think is lovely for an alternative name

allyfe · 31/03/2010 13:40

I'm afraid I HATE Arthur. I do not remotely understand why it has become popular. But it is perhaps because it is my brother's middle name (family tradition) and so we grew up with it being hideous (because in the 80's and 90's it was).

I'm slightly on a mission to get the world to go for anything other than Arthur - but I know I'm in a bit of a minority

umf · 30/03/2010 22:09

Alban with Albie as nn?

mabble · 30/03/2010 21:46

I have picked Arthur, with Artie as a nn for my ds, I love it but OH isn't too keen. He has no other suggestions so it's lucky he has 4 more months for it to grow on him.
