Eden Shailes is beautiful
love Darcy and Elodie too

madamefreckle · 04/04/2010 21:08

Really love Leila/Laila or Rosalie (poss Rosie for short)

Ivykaty44 · 03/04/2010 17:45

elodie is my fav on your lit, a classic french first name that is underused I also think as someone else did that it is nice with your surname

muminthemiddle · 03/04/2010 17:40

Out of them all I think Elodie goes really well.

JazzDalek · 03/04/2010 13:07

I have an Eden, so obviously I love that name. I think it's beautiful, simple and classic without being common or overused . It was the only girl's name we had on the table when I was pregnant with her.

I also like Dorothy, Elodie, Laila and Violet. I think Rosalie is gorgeous, but there might be quite a few little Rosalies in the offing (the Twilight effect?)

Don't like Luna or Lorella at all. Darcy and Harper are a bit too American daytime soap opera for my taste.

Lora69 · 01/04/2010 01:38

thankyou!
I am more stuck though now, as partner doesnt like Meredith but we decided on Henry for boy and other girl names I like have the same 'e' sound to them- Phoebe and Elodie. Can we really have rhyming sibling names? that bothers me a bit..
I really wanted Meredith, nn Merrie. But i guess even that rhymes with Henry..!

Do you like Henry and Phoebe are too similar sounding? Theres not many girls names i am in love with to the same extent..

Other boy options are Jonathan, Zachary and Benjamin xx

Harper Lee wrote To Kill A MockingBird . Her name was Nelle Harper Lee . There's a bit of a trend for her characters at the moment Atticus,Scout,Dill . Her name was a family name, but I think it works as a modern classic.Yes I love it and would consider it for future girls .Staggering list ,some great names

Lonnie · 31/03/2010 15:08

Elodie and Eden gets my votes both beautiful and not masively common names

Lora69 · 31/03/2010 14:34

Am i missing something- who is Harper Lee?!!! lol, she sounds american?

BTW the Meredith link doesnt put me off..

Jessica -- Nice
Evelyn -- Nice
Meredith -- The TH runs into the SH and makes you trip over your tongue
Rosalie -- Lovely
Eden -- I agree with the rest home comment
Ava -- Too many long A sounds
Violet -- The T hits the SH wrong
Luna -- Luna will become Loony
Harper -- Nice
Niamh -- The V sound doesn't blend well with the SH
Laila -- Nice, prefer Lila
Phoebe -- Lovely
Darcy -- Hate Darcy because of the 'arse' in the middle
Elodie -- too insipid
Dorothy -- Prefer Theodora to Dorothy
Amelie -- insipid
Heidi -- Lovely
Annabelle -- Nice, although when you run them together you get belsh (belch)
Annie -- Lovely
Lorella Dislike Lorella old ladyish but not in a nice way
Willow -- Sounds like a new estate
Elizabeth (nn Bess/Bessie/Betsy) -- Lovely
Aubrey -- Aubrey is a boy's name? Prefer Audrey
Lola -- Lola has some negative associations
Judith -- TH problem again

So the ones I like most are Jessica, Evelyn, Rosalie, Harper, Phoebe, Heidi, Annie and Elizabeth.
I also like Ingrid and Helen

Lora69 · 29/03/2010 18:24

I love Meredith, Juliet (new one!), Elodie, Phoebe, Violet maybe, maybe Rosalie tho i dislike Ros.. and I'm becoming strangely drawn to Dorothy! xxx

OP posts:
MinnieMalone · 29/03/2010 08:03

Jessic - meh
Dorothy - very sweet, will make exception to my dislike of old lady names!

MinnieMalone · 29/03/2010 08:02

Very varied!

Love Rosalie, Leila (that spelling, though, not with the 'a'), Annie.

Harper is sweet and obviously has connotations of Lee.

Meredith and Phoebe could grow on me.

Niamh is nice and you're thinking about the proper spelling, which is good.

Lola is nice but very popular.

Elizabeth is nice and very classic.

Not good:
Ava, Amelie - nice but so zeitgeisty
Judith - not to my taste. Prefer Juliet.
Violet - hate those fashionable old lady names, sorry
Willo - cat's name
Eden, Luna, Lorella - awful
Heidi - too cutesy
Annabelle - too flowery, especially with the French-ified 'elle' at the endEvelyn - harsh sounding.
