Brother or Sister for Verity

Valinor · 21/03/2010 16:30

We are on team yellow and can't seem to agree on a name for Verity's little brother or sister.

DH likes Imogen, Phoebe, Tamsin, Hugo, Elliot and altho I don't mind any of these they aren't 'the one'.

I want to find a name which like Verity is relatively unusual but everyone has heard of and a name where spelling isn't an issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Our sn is 1 syllable and begins with an M so 1 syllable fn's ten to be out as they sound too blunt together.

Thanks

Ok, so maybe I should've used the word 'uncommon' instead of 'unusual'. I can't understand why some posters are so pedantic.

Thank you to everyone else who offered suggestions - they are great.

You aren't very good at statistics .

winterfailing · 22/03/2010 10:46

It's really not very unusual
Are you the op by any chance?

Bonsoir · 22/03/2010 09:58

Given that there were 708,711 live births in England & Wales in 2008, that makes 0.017% of children named Verity that year. Which is really pretty unusual! The chances of finding another Verity in the same school as you are minuscule.

My suggestion of Clementine is twice as unusual, yet it's always described as becoming popular on here.

winterfailing · 22/03/2010 09:41

Considering that list of name charts runs into tens of thousands, it is not unusual at all. Those are from 2008 anyway.
I don't dislike it, I'm just surprised by names some people think are unusual.

Bonsoir · 22/03/2010 09:29

Verity is quite unusual - it was 363rd most popular name for little girls in England & Wales in 2008, with 121 little girls named Verity that year.

menomena · 21/03/2010 23:35

Imogen, Phoebe, Tamsin, Hugo, Elliot

I like your DH's choices - Imogen would also have been one of my first suggestions and I also love Elliot. The rest are nice too.

I think Phoebe and Imogen from your original list are lovely.

Other mainstream but not overused girls' names I can think of include:

Naomi
Louisa

Ruth
Lydia
Olive

For boys how about

Joel
Jonah

CaveMum - if you read my original post I didn't say that the name had to 'go' with Verity, I just wanted ideas for a name which like Verity is relatively unusual but everyone has heard of and a name where spelling isn't an issue

I don't want to just pick a name I like, I want to love it - that's why I'm asking for suggestions. If I didn't give posters anything to go on I may as well just read the name book from cover to cover.

If dc3 is a girl then she will almost certainly be Verity, which means that she will have a sister called Philippa (Pippa) and a brother called Duncan Elliot.

CaveMum · 21/03/2010 21:16

Children are individuals and shouldn't be tailored into sets or pairs.
It truly doesn't matter if the names don't "go" together, just pick a name you like.

SE13Mummy · 21/03/2010 20:08

I know a Verity who has sisters called Emily and Harriet and a brother, Henry.
