What do you think of the name Kip for a boy?

I'm really stuck with boy's names and was wondering what you thought of Kip?

I also like Ned and kind of like Rafferty, although not too sure about the shortening Raff. Again, also like Barnaby, but don't like the shortening Barney!

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!

Kip is short for Kipper, Bird

3 - it's the same one. It has to be. Fishy Fishington!

Kip reminds me of kippers, but is much nicer than Ned. Rafferty is fine but v. posh in my view.

3 - I can't remember his surname, but I see you live in the East Midlands so it is certainly a potential for him being one and the same!

MotherJack-I know a retired headmaster called Kip too...
He was called Kip as a nickname-although it is all anyone knew him as- as a shortening for kipper because his surname was also the name of a fish..

(wondering if there are a glut of ex-headmaters known as Kip or could it possibly be the one and the same..)

I know a Kip. It's not short for anything. I wouldn't choose it myself, but it suits this boy.

I know someone whose son is called Kipling, Kip for short. It's quite nice, a bit quirky.

I had a work colleague who called their ds Kip. Everyone was a bit about it because it really doesn't sound like a proper name, but a nickname. It's a nice enough nickname, although woudl make me think of sheepdogs, but really not good as a proper name. I like Barnaby, and Kit is great for Christopher.

Kip is quite a nice sounding name but in reality I would expect anyone named Kip to slap their thigh a lot and laugh in an overly loud manner while rustling up a doorstop sandwich from the tuckbox Mother sent him to school with

I don't like kip at all! It's slang for a short snap or sleep "im trying to get some kip.." but is also used a lot in Ireland to refer to a horrible grubby dirty lodging! Check out:

(though the boys name Kip is also thought to come from Kipp (pointed Hill).

How about Pip instead? Not far off, derived from Philip i think..

Rafferty is cute, but the shortened versions are not so much!

There are children's books about a sheepdog called Kip .. that's what came to mind!

Kit is better than Kip.

I would think of a short sleep for kip.
