Stuck with names...

The boyfriend is useless... Everytime I ask him to think I'm met with a unhelpful response of 'dunno'.

He has a common surname so I want an unusual-ish name for baby that not many their age will have. His sister has 4 people with the same surname in her class (not just her year group or school, her class!) and at least one with the same full name.

So far, we've got
Oscar, Cameron (not many boys names)
Aoife (pronounced Eefa), Annabelle, Sofia, Emily (bit too normal I think).

Middle names are David and Grace.
The only problem with Cameron is the meaning (crooked nose) and I remember in school having to tell everyone the meaning so I think if that happens, crooked nose is not the nicest in the world.

Help needed thank you.

Love Oscar and Annabelle. Not unusual but you shouldn't end up with 4 in the class.

There are lots of Sofias and Emilys around so I'd avoid those if you want something less common.

Not sure about Aoife - I like the look and sound of it, I just think that she'd always have to spell it and clarify pronunciation.

Don't like Cameron, especially with a middle name of David - did you say that one out loud to yourself?

Whoops, sorry, got carried away assuming you wanted suggestions

Re. your names, I like Oscar and Cameron but Oscar is v popular and yes, Cameron with David as a middle name is a bit unfortunate (shame, as it's a great choice otherwise).

Not a fan of Annabelle but your other girl's names are sweet Sofia is my favourite. You could substitute Seraphine and use nn Sera if you wanted an 'everyday' version.

waitingimpatiently · 19/03/2010 09:54

No! Suggestions are welcome!! Anything to propose to him is good.

I thought that about Cameron (that was his choice) but David is a family middle name so that goes.
I thought Oscar was getting a bit popular so I'm not sure on that at the moment either. (And Oscar is the name of a type of fish, which doesn't sit well in our family haha).

The girls names are coming easier though, Aoife is my favourite, which goes nicely with Grace, and I can almost guarantee that no one will have that name. It looks nicer when it's written down. His favourite is Emily but I'm worried about how popular it would be at the time.

Has anyone else noticed that when you think you've decided it just doesn't sound right after a while and you have to change it?!

Yes, that happened to me. We ended up deciding to pick from a shortlist when the baby was born, although we had a clear frontrunner and in the event that was what suited DS best.

lifeas3plus1 · 19/03/2010 10:12

TBH I rather like David as a first name. It is a lovely name and very widely known without being widely used.

The youngest David I know is 8yrs old and he's such a sweet, lovely lad.

I love Aoife!

BessieBoots · 19/03/2010 10:16

Aoife is lovely. I think Annabelle is a bit sloaney m'self...

What about Roman? Or Rowan?Roman David is lovely!

I do like Elizabeth but the boyfriend is not too keen. Elizabeth Grace goes nicely.

Annabelle is the best so far because my middle name is Anne, as is his mum's, his grandma's first name was Anne, my great Grandma's name was Anne so thats a nice family name. And I love Annie.

I also like Summer and Lily but Lily rhymes with the surname so thats a no no haha.

We just cannot agree!!

Thanks for all the help so far

if you're in Scotland at all Camerons are EVERYWHERE just now

Oscar ok but remind me of the grouch

loads and loads of Emilys here too
aoife is nice if you have Irish connections

Maggie00 · 19/03/2010 20:38

Oscar or Annabelle. I wouldn't do Aoife if you're in the UK. Eva is nicer imo. Cameron I like it but with Cameron Diaz I'd ahve a slight worry that it might go to the girls... (if that matters).

I like victor and Robert a lot.

waitingimpatiently · 20/03/2010 16:44

I think we've decided on Annabelle Diane for a girl, instead of Grace (family name) but we're still stuck on the boys name!

Thanks guys.
