if our baby due in 2wk is a boy we were set on the name harry only downside is its popularity..but my love of the name was going to over rule this.

but then yesterday a friend mentioned hugo

thought it could be an alternative..cant decide if i like it or not

so thought i would throw it out on here n get sum opinions?

current dds names are grace and daisy i think harry and hugo both go with these ?

Ooh yes..! Classy name. I like it

I imagine all Hugo's to be fantastic fun to be around for some reason.

PanicMode · 03/04/2010 14:30

Congratulations - great choice of name !

Divatheshopaholic · 03/04/2010 13:40

congratulations!

5DollarShake · 03/04/2010 13:28

Congratulations - lovely name!!

I knew a ghastly, very posh Hugo and even he didn't put me off it!

LynetteScavo · 03/04/2010 13:17

Congratualtions...you have superb taste in names.

Shaz10 · 03/04/2010 13:15

I have to admit a bias as my ds2 (age nearly 2) is a Hugo, the name was picked by my dh and I was unsure about it for the very reasons you mentioned right up until the moment he was born. Now I love it...

and I also live up north in a very middle class area, but have only had positive comments about his name (to my face anyway)

I do love the name Harry and it was on our list, but like you what put us off was its popularity. DS1 has 3 Harrys in his year at school

blogpage · 20/03/2010 20:42

What thirtysomething said.

LynetteScavo · 20/03/2010 19:39

Hugo is a fabulous name.

DS2 was all set to be called Hugo (although DH said he might call him Hugh as a nick name )...then he just didn't look like a Hugo when he was born.

There are loads of Harrys around. Please, please call your DS Hugo, just for me.

Kingsroadie · 20/03/2010 19:34

Love it.

cece · 20/03/2010 18:16

I love it. Also love Hugh as well.

remaincalm · 20/03/2010 18:09

I don't think of Hugo in a negative way. I know a rugby player called Hugo and someone in the army called Hugo. Neither of them are "wet".

thirtysomething · 20/03/2010 17:51

I wonder if it depends where you live....I heard "Hugo" shouted to a very small boy in the school playground the other day - a few mums commented on the name in a negative way ....It isn't a name i've ever heard round here....Must say it sounds a bit posh and a bit "wet" to me - can't imagine a big strapping teenager with the name Hugo, sorry!

ps. i live up North in a very middle class area but think it would be a difficult name to grow up with round here....though I guess if you are in London where there seems to be much more tolerance amongst kids for unusual names then go for it!!

ellesabe · 20/03/2010 17:45

Love it!
MUCH better than Harry imo

boodleboot · 20/03/2010 14:31

i love hugo but think harry sounds much better wiv cook tbh.

steph1512 · 20/03/2010 14:28

i too thought they sounded nice together because of all ending differently..n my dh likes it alot to when i suggested it

im still swaying from one to the other thou..
think cos since my first preg 4yr ago i always thought if i ever had a boy it wud be a harry so worried ill regret not using but then again i have always been put off by it popularity

think that hugo is the first name to come up that gives me doubts so that must be a good sign.

our surname is cook so think it goes well with that to!?! not sure of middle name thou..poss james!?!

will be glad that in a couple of wk i will no for def boy or girl....we have found name choosing so hard third time round!

I love love love Hugo

Lovethesea · 20/03/2010 08:42

I know a lovely Hugo (baby).

The name goes well with Daisy and Grace because you'd have 3 difference sound endings - whereas Harry ends like Daisy.

PanicMode · 18/03/2010 12:45

I adore Hugo but it doesn't work with our surname at all - so we're thinking Henry or Harry, despite its popularity.

I agree Daisy, Grace and Hugo sound lovely together.

bunnymother · 18/03/2010 12:21

Hugo is a terrific name - little bit funkier (in the best possible way) than Harry. A friend's boyfriend is Hugo and is called The 'Go.

Pasiphae · 18/03/2010 12:18

Grace, Daisy and Hugo feels fab. Much nicer than Harry.
