I have named 3 boys... so why can't I decide on a girls name and be happy with it for more than 2 weeks? :0/ Am not enjoying this at all....

With my boys I had 2 or 3 names we liked and managed to settle on one from about 36 weeks onwards - was nice toname the baby, get used to using the name, sort of giving the bump an identity.

Now I am 36 weeks preg with a girl and I just can't settle on anything for long. I think 'Yes! That's the name' then the more I think about it I end p thinking it's a bit boring and now the baby is un-named again - last 2 weeks she has been called Lydia.

Others include: Elle, Livia, Alexa/Alexis, Lily, Violet and DH threw Avril into the mix last night...

Why can't I do this when I have done it just fine 3 time sin the past?

I feel like I am 'unprepared'.

Lydia is a great name. Maybe you'll relike one of your discarded names once she's born. I did.

LittleMissWorryHead · 19/03/2010 15:35

Lila?

fanjolina · 19/03/2010 13:22

I think Sienna is a lovely name.

The link to Miller is just a recent thing - and let's face it, it's not like she is an actress of note nor is ever going to be, so I doubt the connection with her will linger (and certainly not amongst children)

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/03/2010 12:21

I will probably drop Lydia then on that note as I know if chlamydia came up and it were my name I would be absolutely devastated.

On Sienna - does anyone actually think it's a pretty name? Miller aside?
She is not a famous porn actress or anything dodgy is she? I didn't even think she was that 'big'?

Boman doesn't seem to put people off Edith and I personally find her irritating on the radio.

How common is Annabell and do you think Annabell suits all ages? I guess it would be changed to Anna or Belle?

Or Elodie NN Ellie even?

IPlayBanjoOnMyFanjo · 19/03/2010 09:35

SE13, interesting that your DH hasnt come across this teasing in school.

We had briefly considered Lydia for our DD, but BIL who is a teacher put us off it for the 'Lydia Chlamydia' connection. The Lydia he taught tried to hang herself due to the chlamydia name calling

It wasnt something I had connected the name with, and I was surprised teenagers would even know about CHlamydia, but apparently there is a big campaign targetting teenagers about this, with posters everywhere.

lowrib · 18/03/2010 22:13

Elodie?

SE13Mummy · 18/03/2010 22:02

I think Lydia is a beautiful name. I know a couple of teenaged Lydias and neither have been called Lydia chlamydia. The Lydias that my DH has taught have also never had that nickname thrown at them.

Lydia is a much nicer name than Sienna and would sit well with your sons' names if two of them are biblical. How about Kate or Daisy as a middle name? I like the sound of Lydia Mary and know a Lydia Ruth.

For alternatives you could try looking on www.nameberry.com, if you type in your sons' names it will give a list of 'similar' names.

fanjolina · 18/03/2010 20:45

delphine?

mathanxiety · 18/03/2010 16:46

Lucy?

I think of Miller too. Daisy always seems a bit wispy and insubstantial to me. Same with other weed/flower names.

Tillyscoutsmum · 18/03/2010 12:28

Sienna just makes me think of Miller I'm afraid. I like Daisy but it is getting popular. I agree Kate is a bit plain. I like Kitty though

How about Sadie ? Stella ? Claudia ?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 18/03/2010 11:23

Anyone else have any opinions on Sienna?

Daisy is picking up quite sharply isn't it? Kate I like, but is a bit.... plain..? I don't know....

We've just had dd after 3 boys - the boys were so much easier to name (sign of things to come ???). We registered her with 40 minutes to spare though that was mainly because I was agonising over the fact that what I really wanted to call her is very similar to my niece's name.

Anyway. Sympathy. Not convinced by Sienna. What about Daisy? Or Kate?

gemcgem · 18/03/2010 09:54

sweetkitty · 17/03/2010 15:32

Ladyoftheflowers - I remember now you are the "opposite" way round, maybe we should just do a swap

My current favourite girls names are
Isabella (would have been DD4's if she weren't a he)
Imogen
Elodie
Claudia
Arianna
Elianna

something classic like Catherine or Elizabeth is great as there are a lot of nice nicknames

crumpette · 17/03/2010 11:37

Ladyoftheflowers

MY DD was named at 6 weeks, then I changed my mind and re-registered her at 8 weeks or so

don't feel bad!

I like Lydia

I also like

Julia
Juliet
Annabel
Charlotte
Sophia
Laura
Alice
Marianne

But Lydia is lovely and classic. I never thought of Lydia chlamydia til DP said it [grr] but I knew a Lydia at school who was uber-popular and clever and pretty and was never called that.

Aubergines · 17/03/2010 06:55

Nina
Erin
Iris

Italiangreyhound · 17/03/2010 01:33

LadyOfTheFlowers I like the name Violet, and also Grace and Lydia. Are you really into flowers (hence your name)? It almost seems as if there is too much choice not too little!

If you want a name of substance I think something like Sarah is very good but it is quite popular, or has been in the past. Maybe if you think how you came up with your boys names it will give you some clue to a girl's name...did you name them after family members/characters you admired/names that depicted strength of character (to you) or ones you simply liked the sound of? Some of the names mentioned are Bible names, would you like Bible names/old fashioned/more modern. Maybe if you narrowed it down you could find something nice. Good luck, sad to see a sad icon, what a great dilemma to have!

Lydia is a gorgeous name! I know a very beautiful Lydia but she spells it Lidia which I'm not as keen on.

Don't worry about the rhyming thing, it probably will never happen.

Ladyoftheflwers well done you for deciding on a name before your babies were born, my babies were all named the day after they were born

I always wanted to have a name picked so it would be on their bands & cot label but we couldn't decide

Lydia is lovely and the comparison your friend made would never spring to my mind and as someonelse said you could think of something to put you off most names
