Is Lucas a naughty boys name?? My friends seem to think so. I liked Ethan but they put me off of that too!

Is Luke better??

Will Lucas be assocated with this generation too much?

I have a Lucas and he is a very good boy! Have always loved the name, it was never as unusual as I would have liked but is far less common than Luke. Lucas is a classic name, not faddy at all! I get lots of comments from people who think its a lovely name.

dizzydixies · 19/03/2010 18:18

and there is exactly the reason for not discussing names prior to giving the baby one

absolutely nothing wrong with either Ethan or Lucas

I think Luke is a bit of a shame for a young child as I imagine everytime someone says look they would turn round

am more of a fan of Luca than Lucas though

lovechoc · 19/03/2010 18:03

I can think of worse harsh sounding names than Lucas TBH!!

FacePalm · 19/03/2010 17:47

well, I have a Lucas, he is 2..I have to say, I have not heard any other boys called Lucas round here.

I think it is a lovely name, we do not shorten it, he is a Lucas, not a Luke/Luc..but he can do so when he is older is he wishes.

I do not think it is harsh sounding at all.

Tbh, in the end, I would pay no attention to what anyone else thinks of a name, if you like it then ignore everyone else. There will always be people who say a name is chavvy or common or a naughty childs name (clearly unlike the names they have chosen/will choose for their offspring then!)

Hullygully · 19/03/2010 17:21

Well he dislikes you too. So ner.

sassysass · 19/03/2010 17:17

It doesn't matter how long a name's been around. Jason and Sharon are Biblical! Kevin's been around for centuries.

How old a name is has no relevance. 98% of names in use are real names with some history.

I dislike Lucas. It's the new Connor/Kai/Liam type name in my opinion. Very harsh sounding.

Hullygully · 19/03/2010 16:26

My Lucas is 13 and the name used to raise an eyebrow, is it really so popular now..?

CaroJo · 19/03/2010 16:20

How can Lucas date quickly? It's a biblical name and has been there forever!

sweetheart · 19/03/2010 15:36

I have a Lucas but he is 4 so we probably got in before it becamme too popular, he is the only one at his playschool that I know of.

When he was a baby we called him Lukey and now he is getting older I often shorten it to Luke when I'm talking to him. I like the fact it gives flexability really - I'm sure when he is older he will be know to his friends as Luke but he will also have Lucas as a more professional sounding name.

He is not naughty at all by the way, well not yet anyway

blogpage · 19/03/2010 15:30

Prefer Luke, as I think Lucas sounds fussier.

lovechoc · 19/03/2010 14:55

Alouiseg - I agree with you

diddl · 17/03/2010 11:07

I love my children´s names and they have both been called common, chavvy & pretentious on here.

They were unusual when we chose them& are now more popular-guess we just have good taste
So I would say use the name you like-don´t not use it in case it becomes popular.

Unless you make up a name- you´re unlikely never to hear of another child with the same name.

Moral is-if you love the name, use it!

teaandcakeplease · 17/03/2010 08:48

I like Lucas.

I didn't choose my sons name until 4 hours before going into labour. I was rather fixated about "what people would think" etc. In retrospect I think I'd have chosen his name sooner if I hadn't been thinking about that or listening to friends advice

My son is called Jacob and Lucas is lovely. I haven't read the whole thread but it's your baby, choose whatever feels right to you as the parents

diddl · 17/03/2010 08:37

Lucas is a great name.
Stop telling your friends!

If you like the name use it.

Fourleaf · 17/03/2010 07:46

I think Lucas is THE trendy name of this year, and has become popular v quickly (due to spooks?) so I wouldn't use it. Ethan is ok. Love Luke- classic, biblical, popular but over a longer period of time. Good strong name.

MaggieSilver · 16/03/2010 16:32

I like it, but I prefer Marcus. I wouldn't have thought Lucas was a naughty boy name. But I'm not a teacher.

ShowOfHands · 16/03/2010 11:19

Lucas is lovely though very now.

I know two Lukes of my generation. Both very naughty indeed. The oldest of them is in prison he's that naughty.

Ethan is v American and just meh.

loobylu3 · 16/03/2010 11:16

Lucas is fabulous!
I have one and he always been a v 'good', well liked by children and adults (and much easier than his sisters)

I don't know any naughty boys called Lucas.

It probably will be rather 'of this generation' as it has rapidly become popular.

I don't like Ethan at all I'm afraid.

Other names which remind me of Lucas (or siblings of a Lucas that I have heard of):
Jasper
Felix
Oliver
Linus
Peter
Henry
Nathaniel/ Nathan
Marcus

Alouiseg · 14/03/2010 14:26

Lol, Ethanol is alcohol! maybe not a good omen.

Fayrazzled · 14/03/2010 14:15

I know a naughty Lucas so do associate it with being a naughty name.

I much prefer Luke- much more classic and less of a time than Lucas.

Bucharest · 14/03/2010 14:00

Lucas is lovely, sounds really nice.
Luke is OK, but just a bit meh.
Luca is the naughty one.

I loathe Ethan. Mainly because I can't help but say it with a whiney nasal voice.

doubleexpresso · 14/03/2010 12:48

Ethan is a bit American, as is Lucas. Lucas reminds me of STARWARS (George Lucas). Ethan also sounds like the beginning of Ethanol - I don't know what that is ... some sort of chemical / medical drug?

Alouiseg · 14/03/2010 12:01

Personally not keen.

Lucas,Lucas,Lucas shakes pompoms

itsmylife · 14/03/2010 11:47

WDYT of Ethan?

MamaLazarou · 14/03/2010 11:47

I agree, Alouiseg.
