Please rank these names for me. I have a favourite but I wont tell you which one it is!

But I might be biased

And if I must...

Nicholas (lovely and vastly underused)
Oliver (vastly overused but still nice)

Callum
Jake (both ok but both overused)

BravoJuliet · 14/03/2010 09:50

Nicholas
Jake
Calum (it only has one l i think)

Not keen on Henry or Oliver but they're both ok names.

Georgimama · 14/03/2010 09:48

Not prejudice. The only Jakes I know are complete brats, and I happen not to like the name very much anyway. If the only Henrys I knew were brats it would probably colour my view of the name too.

sweetkitty · 14/03/2010 06:58

Callum is VERY popular up here (central Scotland) I know about 10 alone without thinking, there are 2 in DD1's class and 2 in DD2's nursery class and 2 at toddler groups.

Lovely name though just v popular.

my favs:

Oliver
Jake
Callum
Henry
Nicholas

mathanxiety · 14/03/2010 00:35

Also a bit ironic since Colm/Callum, and other variations means 'dove'.

mathanxiety · 14/03/2010 00:34

Is there some sort of prejudice thing going on do you think with Irish or Scottish-named children being perceived as wild? Big pity if so.

j0807bump · 13/03/2010 22:55

i am sure there are loads of lovely cal(l)ums out there

still get worried about offending people on here, gotta work on that!

Surprise · 13/03/2010 22:50

Callum is the only one to avoid. Has lots of connotations with badly-behaved children, (if you live in England that is) similarly lots of other Celtic names (Ryan, Kyle etc). If you live in Scotland or Ireland then I imagine that Callum is a fine name.

In order of preference:

Oliver
Jacob
Nicholas
Henry
Callum

Calum but spelled with only one L is my favourite!
Don't really like Henry or Jake.
Oliver isn't 1 I'd choose and Nicholas I'd shorten to Nick.
I work in a school and have only met nice Calums!!! (and DS is a "one L" Calum - I'm from Scotland so of course I spell it that way!!!)

Sorry - but Callum is so overused now and I don't think it even sounds nice. Like Gollum.
