Although I cannot be sure of the ages of the posters on here, I do wonder if it is a generational thing (I am still in my 20s) as Lola just does not say anything sexual and stripperish to me.

Or maybe I am just an uneducated twunt because I haven't read "Lolita".

Feel quite sad now that people might be judging my dd's name in such a vile way, don't know how you would feel about that OP.

GibbonInARibbon · 17/03/2010 11:41

Stripper who does extras

Sorry that is the image I have.

crumpette · 17/03/2010 11:27

sorry, got a bit carried away there. I considered Lola in the height of my pregnancy hormone induced madness when I had DC1. I am so glad I did not choose it.
I always test the name by asking myself, is this a name you would like to have? Would you feel happy and proud or silly and embarrassed? Does it convey who you are.. etc etc

I think Lola is cute and spunky sassy and cool

but I do not think the connotations are positive at all. Not only the kinks transvestite/ the showgirl but the Vladimir Nabokov Lolita associations which will flash across everyone's mind when they hear the name of your child. Not a positive thing!

crumpette · 17/03/2010 11:21

NO!!!!!!

PatsyStone · 17/03/2010 11:11

Lola Kate is a lovely combination. If you and dh are happy with it that's all that matters. I cannot understand why this name is so divisive, you could probably put some kind of dodgy connotation to most names.

A work of fiction and a couple of old dodgy songs can cause this much dislike in a name?!

As for the high court judge test, the first and only woman in the Supreme Court is called Brenda. Now that's not exactly the most serious of names is it?

OrmRenewed · 17/03/2010 09:39

My cat is called Lola. As far as I'm concerned any other Lola would play second fiddle

lottiejenkins · 17/03/2010 09:38

Lola was a Transexual/Transvestite in The Kinks song!!

Superfly · 17/03/2010 09:33

Where's the dodgy sexual connotation with the name Lola?

KERALA1 · 16/03/2010 14:13

Awful. Faddish (will date terribly) and with very dodgy sexual connotations. Baffled by its popularity. THere are lots of lovely names out there pick one of those!

boodleboot · 16/03/2010 13:58

it really does divide people this name doesn't it.....i just don't think of it as a sexual name at all prob cos of hours of reading and watching charlie and lola with DS

Louisa is ok....bit meh tho i think...

come on ladies - what else can lola be short for???

{not Dolores....HATE that}

CAn't i jut go for Lola Kate {no hyphen before the hyphen brigade get their snipers out....}

i think its gorgeous

5DollarShake · 16/03/2010 10:21

Exactly what I was going to say tortoise - it is not a name to be taken seriously as an adult / professional (and when I say 'professional', I don't mean lady of the night ).

I might use it as a nn, but not as an actual name.

SqueezyB · 16/03/2010 09:01

How about Louisa shortened to Lola or Lulu? I do like it, and you'll never be short of things with her name on thanks to Charlie and Lola, but I agree it's more of a child's NN than a grown-up name.

savoycabbage · 16/03/2010 06:27

I think it's like Kylie.

Too highly sexually-laden name for me; the Peadophile's pet name for his Lolita, the Kinks, the showgirl with the high cut dress at the Copa..

a bit naff at best and just not apt for a little girl

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 15/03/2010 23:18

It's getting really trendy, Lola. There's CharlieandLola, of course. There's a lingerie/bedwear range over here called ChloeandLola. And I know 3 under 5.

Also, yes, it fails the Prime Minister test.

Agree with the idea to use something like Dolores (which I love) and use Lola as nickname.

HelenDoula · 15/03/2010 23:16

Lola Kate .. really nice and if the bump be blue?!!!!

boodleboot · 15/03/2010 22:29

i have found the ultimate middle name and the combo is front runner for dh and i should this bump be pink

Lola Kate....

Stripper name.

daysoftheweek · 14/03/2010 00:27

Mrs T I suspect that's a generational thing.
I'm a bit to say it says stripper to me too (as well as the bit about accountant trying to be an art student!)

MrsTicklemouse · 14/03/2010 00:10

Am a bit at stripper comments the first thought i had was charlie and lola!

i like it btw

SarfEasticated · 14/03/2010 00:02
