Is Georgia considered 'common'

I know it's popular (that doesn't bother us) but is it considered common (ie chav) IYO?

I really like it. We had decided on Pippa but now I'm torn! Would appreciate opinions

....and Georgiana is even nicer if you say it the Duchess of Devonshire way, George-Jayna.

BravoJuliet · 11/03/2010 17:02

Georgiana was the name of Mr Darcy's ward, so I refuse to believe it could be considered common.

I think Georgina or the even more fabulous Georgiana are a thousand times better than Georgia

maybe a bit which is a shame as it's very nice.

Philippa is lovely, very classy and Pippa a cute nickname.

Lizzylou · 11/03/2010 16:50

I like it, have never heard of anyone called Georgia in these parts.

Pippa is nice as well (though prefer Philippa with Pippa as a nn)

Ineedsomesleep · 11/03/2010 16:50

I do prefer Georgia to Pippa, but yes you may have a point.

A few years ago a cousin brought his new girlfriend and her little Georgia along to a family party. She was completely charming. Ran along the edge of the table taking bites out of everything and throwing the food back whilst her Mum stood laughing. When we told her off she swore at us! The relationship didn't last for very long after that.

I don't think so. I don't know any. It seems quite classic to me. Not keen on Pippa.

frogetyfrog · 11/03/2010 16:48

I love the name Georgia and wish I had used it - and there is nothing chav about me!

Ondine · 11/03/2010 16:44

I think Georgia is considered slightly common to be honest.

Georgina or Georgiana aren't though if you like them?

I prefer all three to Pippa personally, all are a bit more elegant.

Haven't heard the name Georgia in a while

  • Pippa is nice and I haven't heard that recently either. Plenty of Miley's out there at the moment though.
