Darcey - overused and chav???

I know of 3 Darceys. They are all friends of friends children who I have met but don't know very well. None of them are remotely chavvy

D'Arcy is french meaning 'of/from Arcy'
Darcy (i read) is irish and means 'dark one' and is unisex
Darcey is alternate/english spelling.

Please spell it properly if you use it - it's D'Arcy (my dad is called as is his dad and so on). A bit naff for a girl now I think, am sad though as always wanted to use it, as it's a family name.

Not keen for either gender. To me it's a surname (without the e, admittedly) and forever associated with Pride and Prejudice. That may be a good thing for you, of course.

I prefer Dulcie. It's prettier and not a sur name. I don't like that Darcey could be a boy's names. Some people like that unisex vibe though. Depends what you're after.

not chav, but it seems to have got popular v quickly, so I think it will feel dated in a few years.

I think its an awful name for a boy or girl.

Part of the reason I don't like it is probably because I had to (once upon a time, as part of my job within social services) leg it after a 6 year old shaven-headed little boy called Darcy who was trying to do a runner whilst we were out on a day trip.

To be honest I know of at least 3 baby Darcy's so I think it will date very quickly.

Perhaps, though I think we are all influenced by the mass media, celeb culture and other more nation wide associations when it comes to names.

I really love the name Darcey but with just 3 weeks to go I'm having second thoughts and and am thinking of calling the baby Harriet. I think Darcey is getting very popular now and could become a bit dated. Also, when I went shopping yesterday a rather rough sounding gentleman shouted to his daughter "oi darcey get your a*se here nah!"

Even though Names that get tagged as very Chav are quite common here (eg., Tyler, Kieran).
