Hi all
We are ttc no 5 and I am due to test on Monday (feeling queezy so fingers crossed!).
To stop myself from testing early I have been thinking about some more names (although boys are a bit more set).
Would love some opinions - trying to avoid anything too trendy!

Girls

Sybil
Daphne
Mildred (Dilly as nn)
Miriam
Jean
Joan

I am feeling a little bored of our current front runner - Juniper.
Boys will probably be one of Shem, Lev or Mordecai, dh also mentioned Lazarus.

So, opinions on Lazarus - will it be forever associated with lepers? Also not sure Lazarus 'fits' with other dc's.
Thanks!

Miriam is lovely.

Please don't call your kid Juniper

loobylu3 · 06/03/2010 20:44

I love Daphne (would use it myself) but it may well become more popular.

Miriam- like this too
Mildred- could definitely grow on me!

Boy's names not to my taste- just too Biblical for me

janeiteisFedUp · 06/03/2010 18:25

I like Mimi - dd1 was nearly Miranda and would have had nn Mimi.

tummytickler · 06/03/2010 18:22

Like Ezra, Esau and Elijah but have a 7 year old Eli so cant have those.
Dh finds Jem to feminine (we have discussed it already!)

I love Miriam.

From your boys list I prefer Lev.

I think Sybil is an inspired choice! I also really like Daphne, but probably wouldn't have Mildred. Sorry!

tummytickler · 06/03/2010 17:59

Yes, of course Hebrew names are older, i think he may of gotten bored with the Shifrah/Miriam convo. And we have always loved Mildred. And it does go with other dc's names!

Do not like Marianne or Martha though.

mildmanneredjanitor - not orthodox - non practicing. Morrie is less burdensome though!
I am not keen on Lazarus anyway - dh's idea.
I am feeling bored of Juniper as it has been hanging around as a choice for dc's for so long, I am almost trying to ignore it to see if I can like it again!
tbh, I am having trouble lengthening the boys list from Shem and Lev!

"Dh likes old names" - surely the Hebrew names are older than Daphne and Joan etc?!!

I don't like Juniper at all. How about Marianne? Or Martha?

Mrsvwoolf - Mildred has been a favourite for years, but the nn Millie has put us off using it with other dc's, but we really like Dilly, although intend to use Mildred mostly, but thought a nn option might nip Millie in the bud before it starts!

Jeannie is lovely btw but I agree with other posters that Jean is a bit dull and short.

Lazarus would make me snigger i'm afraid. Sorry.

Miriam and Sybil are lovely.

mildred i half like. reminds me of mildew.

skihorse · 06/03/2010 11:26

tummy I really like Lev - tbh I hate your girl's names list. If I were you, I'd be quiet with your husband for the moment and quietly draw up a list of beautiful Hebrew girl's names. I am the opposite right now... OH likes girl's Hebrew names but is reluctant to entertain any boy's ones except the usual suspects.

That aside, if you want the child to be called Dilly, do it - otherwise she'll be called Mildew. Why give the child a name you don't like and then informally call it something else?

tummytickler · 06/03/2010 05:54

jane - if I had my way the girls name would be Hebrew too, but dh likes old names (although it is probable that she would end up with a Hebrew name as he likes Miriam and Shifrah).
I am not too fussed, I am certainly not prepared to do battle over it at the moment!
I like Naomi and Rebecca, but dh does not.

I love Sybil.

I know a simply super one (she's 7) and nobody to my knowledge has ever mentioned Fawlty Towers.

Daphne is also due a comeback, surely.

Can't help on yr boys' names, sorry not my area that.

janeiteisFedUp · 06/03/2010 00:19

Simeon is nice too.

janeiteisFedUp · 06/03/2010 00:18

Jacob?
Noah?
David?
Isaac?
Thaddeus?
Samuel?
Tobias?
Barnabas?

I like all of those!
