Amelia
Amelie
Annabelle
Eleina
Ella
Ellie
Emily
Imogen
Isabelle
Isobel
Lily
Millie
Robyn
Rosa
Rosie
Sophie

Non of them are really jumping out at me though If you had to choose from this list which one would it be?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mathanxiety · 03/03/2010 15:52

To me, this list of your DH's seems like a list of cardboard cut-out girly names -- I agree with AnnaSceptic. So many are Generic Girl Names. You might have some luck announcing her name is Zoe right there in the delivery room when he is face to face with her and she is absolutely real.

How did you end up with such great names for your other two? The names he has put forward for #3 are mostly not in the same league.

AnnaSceptic · 03/03/2010 15:34

It's all far too girly for my liking. Too many elles and belles. Rosa is nice, though.

sweetkitty · 03/03/2010 15:33

geordieminx - yes a HUGE shock, still don't quite believe it and boys names as SO much harder than girls

SqueezyB · 03/03/2010 15:08

I like Ella, Imogen and Rosa.

Out of interest, what were your choices?

mathanxiety · 03/03/2010 15:05

Amelia
Amelie
Emily
-- These are basically the same name. I don't really like any of them. There are hundreds of them in every playground.

Annabelle -- Like, but only spelled Annabel. It's too frilly spelled Annabelle.

Eleina -- Like Elena (without the I) and love Helena (which would go very well with Phoebe and Justin, which are Byzantine and Greek)

Ella
Ellie
-- Again, this is virtually the same name, and again, there are hundreds of them fighting with all the Amelia/Amelie/Emilys over the swings on a playground near you.

Imogen -- Don't like very much. Prefer Ingrid or Astrid.

Isabelle
Isobel
-- These are the same names, different spellings. There are not hundreds but thousands of them, duking it out with all the Ellies and Amelies. It's a nice name, imo, but way too popular.

Lily -- thousands of Lilys. Prefer Lilia.

Millie -- Very popular, and it's a nn rather than a name. It doesn't fit in with Justin and Phoebe because of that and also because it's a frilly name, whereas they're stylish.

Robyn -- nice

Rosa
Rosie
-- same name, pretty much. I prefer Rosa.

Sophie -- nice, but prefer Sophia. This is also a Greek name, so I think it would fit well with Justin and Phoebe.

Your DH has a one-track mind and lacks imagination where names are concerned, imo, but some of the names are nice. From the list, I like:
Annabel
Elena
Robyn
Rosa
Sophie
and the variants Helena (pronounced He-lay-na or He-lee-na) and Sophia.

Would your DH like:
Romy, Rosalie, Rosalind, Rosina
Lara, Clara, Laurel
Ingrid, Ines
Astrid, Annalise
Elizabeth, Eliza, Keziah, Dinah, Tabitha
Constance

I love the suggestions of Beatrice, Leah, Serena, Sylvie and Miranda, and I adore Zoe. I think it would be a fabulous name with Justin and Phoebe.

cece · 03/03/2010 14:35

Our short list for DC3 (and as he was a he we didn't get to use them!)

Annabel
Anna
Una
Verity
Thea
Althea
Alathea

But don't stress too much.
We have the same problem with boys names. We finally agreed on ONE boys name. DC3 born, does not suit him! So back to the drawing board... 5 days later he is named one of the names DH vetoed

cece · 03/03/2010 14:31

Out of the list your DH sent then I would have chosen Annabel (spelt that way rather than the way your DH has spelt it).

bluemonkey123 · 03/03/2010 14:29

why am I having such trouble today
Hooray!!!!

bluemonkey123 · 03/03/2010 14:28

*{grin]

choosyfloosy · 03/03/2010 14:27

Would he go for something that could be shortened to Millie? Millicent maybe, or Camilla?

Rowan?
Mina?
Miranda?

If I HAD to pick from that list I would pick Imogen and would be very happy about it, or would ask if he would be OK with Robin - I know it's normally the boy's spelling but I prefer it.

However, that's not really the point, if you don't love ANY of these then you shouldn't have to go along with it. I would suggest initially that you pick one, choose a second name, and try to live with it for a week - names do sometimes grow on people - dh had one girls' name he liked and actually I did end up liking it too.

5DollarShake · 03/03/2010 14:26

If none of them are jumping out - then give him a taste of his own medicine.

Veto his entire list, and send him yours with an instruction to pick one.

Job's a good 'un.

bluemonkey123 · 03/03/2010 14:24

Bogie,

Sounds like DH likes traditional names and you like unusual ones...difficult combination!! How about something a little unusual but traditional like Evangeline (Evie), Lola, Beatrice (Bea)???
(I like these names but DH thinks even these are too 'way out' - don't tell your DH that though[grin[)

belgo · 03/03/2010 14:08

Your dh has good taste.

This was my dh's list;
Laura
Pixie

From your list I would choose Imogen or Isabelle.

stripeywoollenhat · 03/03/2010 14:04

i quite like rosie, but that's beside the point: i took the line, myself, that i had to do all of the physically traumatic stuff, so i got to pick the name (obviously dp had to be okay with it, and picked the middle name). why his list and not yours?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/03/2010 13:58

Yes, they are nice (Rose/Rosa) my fave, but not terribly inspiring.

(I like Willow and Jasmine)

What about :

Leah
Serena
Sylvie
Esther

geordieminx · 03/03/2010 13:53

sweetkitty - just seen that you are expecting a boy -OMG! I bet that was a shock and a half!

number2please · 03/03/2010 13:53

My daughter is Isobel and we struggled due to difficult surname. its a beautiful name and she s sucha character.

you are lucky ahve suck a long list choose from me and Dh had 2 names for girl and only 1 for boy

Bucharest · 03/03/2010 13:51

I like Zoe! Convince MrBogie to use Zoe!

Hulababy · 03/03/2010 13:46

Amelia - nice, although rather popular. I like Milly as a nn
Amelie - I like this
Annabelle - prefer spelling Annabel; like nn Anna
Eleina - don't like
Ella - ok but a bit harsh sounding to me, quite popuar round here
Ellie - I like this, but as a nn really rather than a full name
Emily - nice pretty name, quite popular
Imogen - not keen
Isabelle - don't like the spelling
Isobel - ok
Lily - pretty
Millie - see Amelia above
Robyn - don't like
Rosa - not keen
Rosie - ok
Sophie - pretty

QueenofDreams · 03/03/2010 13:41

Oh DP and I had this problem as well. We had two boys names we could agree on. We now have four girls names we agree on.
(not pg with DC2 yet, so not really an issue at the moment)

Have you thought of these names:

Eleanor (can be shorted to ellie)
Rosalie (I think nicer than Rosa)
Yvette (similar vein to a couple on the list)
Elaine/Elana

Agree with others, most of the names on that list are a bit boring and very popular atm
Imogen is okish
Robyn - really don't like, ditto Annabelle, Sophie, Millie, Lily ( there seem to be LOADS of baby girls called Lily around lately)

bogie · 03/03/2010 13:36

Bucharest - this is exactly what I am thinking too popular we have a Justin and a Phoebe I quite liked Willow + Jasmine or Zoe but dp really doesn't like them.

OP posts:
zozzle · 03/03/2010 13:29

I like Rosa, Robyn and Imogen. Amelia, Sophie and Isobel seem a bit meh and popular these days.

Bucharest · 03/03/2010 13:25

Amelia it's all right, infinitely preferable to the dreadful Amelie
Amelie - see above
Annabelle - it's all right
Eleina ??? Scrabble bag?
Ella yawn
Ellie -she'll be one of 21 in her class - does he suggest Mae as middle name or hyphen just so we get a full house on the predictable bingo card?
Emily yawn and meh
Imogen harsh sounding
Isabelle -all right
Isobel "
Lily yawn see comments re: Ellie
Millie Like this
Robyn - yurk- American teen drama
Rosa - OK, no need to tamper with Rose though.
Rosie - see above
Sophie see Emily/Ellie comments.

I think you should insist on choosing. None of these leap out because they are all very mainstream and currently uber-popular. If that's your thing, then fine.

sweetkitty · 03/03/2010 13:20

We are at this point with naming our DS, well he was supposed to be DD4 and we had HER name all chosen.

We cannot agree on anything just now and are at a bit of a stalemate, I think I should have the casting vote as I have to go through this hell of pregnancy, birth and BFing!

DD4 was to be Isabella so I like Isabelle and Imogen.

Can you not do a list as well and see if there are any that are the same or smiliar?

What names do YOU like?

ChynaDoll2006 · 03/03/2010 13:19

Like Rosa, it's different, and can call her Rosie as well. All the others are really really boring imo.
