I wonder if all teachers would think that?Or is it just certain schools or certain areas?

like tia makes me think of maria, remy makes me think of martin

RHL · 05/03/2010 21:06

I'm a teacher, believe me Remy would forever be taunted with Remmie as in remedial class. Not good!

mathanxiety · 05/03/2010 19:10

I don't think it's an obvious link, though. And it's not exactly plonk. As for children in remedial class, sadly they are mostly known as rt*ds from my observations.

CinderellaRach · 05/03/2010 09:07

I hope people don't think of it as a 'Chardonnay' name!Oh God...

Remy is a French boys' name. I've never heard of it as a girls' name. I know a three year old Remy (boy). I think it's quite nice and unusual in the UK.

CinderellaRach · 04/03/2010 14:58

It's a grower!Going to have it!

It's a great name, imo, and it goes really well with Ellis. It can be a surname there are apparently a lot of families with the surname Remy in Canada, so it fits in with Ellis from that angle. It's more usually a boy's name but it can also be used for girls however, it's unusual in either case. It means 'from Rheims' of 'of Rheims'.

CinderellaRach · 03/03/2010 15:19

I've heard it's meant to be a boy's name but to some it must sound like a unisex name

I love the name Remy and it's on my list - Remy Moses was a famous footie player in 80s I think.

Downside is it's the name of the rat in Ratatouille but it's a fab name.

gorionine · 03/03/2010 11:17

There was a girl called remy in Dd1's class a few years back, I had forgotten as I generally think of Remy/Remi as a boy.

belgo · 03/03/2010 11:10

I've only heard of Remy as a boy's name.

I love the name Rene and Renee is the girl's version of that.

QueenofDreams · 03/03/2010 10:46

Yes that's the one!
Havne't seen the movie, but the tv series made me bawl. (made my mum bawl too )

gorionine · 03/03/2010 10:28

It remind me of "Remi, sans famille" (without a family, there was an actual movie as well, even sadder) I think it is the same as yours QueenofDreams very sad story but I love the name.

QueenofDreams · 03/03/2010 10:23

When I was little one of my favourit TV programmes was called 'Remi' It was very sad though.
I love the name Although it will always make me think of Remi losing everything he loves in the world, but finally finding his mother

AnnaSceptic · 03/03/2010 10:21

lol!@ all the closet hiphop fans

skihorse · 03/03/2010 10:18

Reminisce is perhaps an unfortunate name given her current circumstances...

ChynaDoll2006 · 03/03/2010 10:00

Sorry, Skihorse, didn't see your post

ChynaDoll2006 · 03/03/2010 10:00

Only thing of Remi Martin, whose full name is Reminisce. I think she's in prison.

BessieBoots · 03/03/2010 09:36

I like it, though I would have thought, seeing it written down, that it was pronounced Reemy.
