I love it too

Nancy and Nina, both lovely

ChoreDodger · 03/03/2010 08:31

I like it, but then I like Jesse for a boy and Pansy for a girl. Really like Pansy. I'd say the insult aspect of it would prevent it becoming to popular. It's have-to-be-brave name.

zozzle · 03/03/2010 10:37

like it.

Nancy is a cute fun name. It brings to mind a kooky pretty, very friendly and fun loving girl. Someone who makes everyone in the room smile.

For some reason I imagine girls called Nancy to be small and have masses of ringlets and big brown eyes! Maybe because I went to school with a girl called Nancy who had ringlets and big brown eyes but you see the sort of beauty in terms of physical looks and inner beauty that I mean.

Conclusion...
Pretty and fun name for a girl!!!

Sunshinemummy · 03/03/2010 11:42

I like it.

ReadingTeaLeaves · 03/03/2010 12:11

Love it love it love it. Wasn't allowed to use it as DH has a close friend called Nancy and thought it would be weird. I know her too and she's great - the name really suits her and I think it works well at any age.

Lovely! Sassy but wise Nancy.
I do think of Nancy Drew but I quite like that link!

gingertoo · 03/03/2010 13:21

Lovely name!

loobylu3 · 03/03/2010 13:25

Really like Nancy! It sounds quirky and vintage. Reminds me of "Jack and Nancy' by Quentin Blake- such a sweet children's book!

Raahh · 03/03/2010 13:26

I suggested this for dc3- and whilst we both like it, i hate the idea of it being shortened to Nan (which seems to be what everyone calls their grandmother round here, and It makes me cringe).

But i really, really love it...

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/03/2010 14:02

I like it

I like Nan as a nn as well

nancy75 · 03/03/2010 14:07

my real name is nancy, nobody has ever shortened it to nan, if people shorten it (which most do) its to nance - soft c no y sound (difficult to explain!. when i was younger it was quite unsual and i hated it, but it is used more now

Hayles79 · 03/03/2010 14:28

My niece is a Nancy, she is 2 and I don't know of any others..... I think it's a great name.

thecoffeelady · 03/03/2010 16:14

We have Nancy picked out for DC2 (due in August), Nancy Elizabeth to be exact. I love the name but I am not sure why. The fact that it is not a popular name is a good thing, no?

Mung · 03/03/2010 16:31

I really like it...also like the suggestion of Nina. Both very pretty and classic names.

AllieW · 03/03/2010 17:58

I'm too familiar with the folksong Nancy Whiskey to like the name overly much (www.metrolyrics.com/nancy-whiskey-lyrics-celtic-folk.html)

FrancyMgo · 04/03/2010 13:51

Great! thanks everyone, you've helped me to decide..Nancy it is!

Nancy is the name of my non-existent daughter! (I have 3 boys) I'll let you use it seeing as I won't be needing it

Takver · 04/03/2010 18:47

Another vote for it as a fantastic name, plus, Nancy from Swallows and Amazons has to be one of the all time best heroines . . .

SE13Mummy · 04/03/2010 19:53

I love it although it makes me think of David Cameron...

FeedTheBeast · 04/03/2010 20:30

love it too! shame DH didn't feel the same

GladioliBuckets · 04/03/2010 20:41

Love it, was our pencilled-in name for if DS2 was a girl.
