Oppinions please.

Baby due in 2 weeks, sex unknown. DH & I cannot agree on a girls name and before I toss this one at him, I'd like to know what you all think. It popped in to my head last night!

Thanks!

I like it but it does make me think of Cruella.

What about Luana?

Chumpalina · 23/02/2010 21:21

I love it but I does remind me of a country and western type girl too, though there's the Welsh name Llewela which is pronounced the same but with the Welsh 'll' sound at the beginning.

natsmum100 · 23/02/2010 21:13

I taught one with spelling Louella. She was lovely - very bright, with plenty of spirit.

jasper · 23/02/2010 20:10

fabulous name

pointysayhiphip · 23/02/2010 19:55

Country and western of the naff variety

AllieW · 23/02/2010 19:49

For some reason it reminds me of Floella - I don't know if it was made up in the same fashion or if it's just because of the -ella suffix. I'm ambivalent about it, to be honest. Probably slightly more positive than negative, though.

boodleboot · 23/02/2010 18:18

yes i like this name too...i love Lulu as NN but dont really like Louise or Louisa so would be great alternative....doesn't make me think of the label but does sound like cruella but not enough to warrant it unusual.....hey if people can seriously consider Ursula even with the little mermaid then a name that just sounds like a villan should surely be ok???

Vivia · 23/02/2010 16:44

I think it sounds a bit hillbilly and also too associated with the (although now defunct) fashion label. So no.

Lulu, yes. Ella, yes. Luella no.

eggontoast · 23/02/2010 16:31

At face value, sounds lovely.

But, if I am honest, first part - Lu - ie. Loo (toliet) and all together, like Cruella as others have said.

monetinfebruary · 23/02/2010 16:27

A Luella is just going to be nicknamed Cruella, it's unavoidable.

monetinfebruary · 23/02/2010 16:26

Ignore the naysayers.

As long as you don't keep spotted dogs or your surname is De Ville it's perfectly fine

mumoftoomany · 23/02/2010 16:23

Lovely name! And nice that it is not that common. Great nicknames too.

Ziggurat · 23/02/2010 15:41

I think it's lovely. I wouldn't be worried about the designer connection, nor Cruella, to be honest.

passionberry · 23/02/2010 15:17

I love it - has an old fashioned deep south kind of vibe.

ilovegreenbeans · 23/02/2010 14:59

I really like it! I went to school with a Louella and also have good associations with the name.
I like Lu, Lou, Lulu and Ella as shortenings too.

mathanxiety · 23/02/2010 14:42

I get an image of a country & western singer of a certain age and era -- no particular person in mind, perhaps with a bouffant hairdo. I think Cruella would be a very likely nn.

zozzle · 23/02/2010 14:21

I instantly thought of Cruella Deville (sp?) of 101 Dalmations fame. Sorry!

DebiNewberry · 23/02/2010 13:57

Luella is v pretty.

Sunshinemummy · 23/02/2010 13:51

I know a little Luella (nn Lulu) and think it's really sweet. She has a little sis called Xanthe.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/02/2010 13:16

Sounds too much like Cruella de Vile - at least, that's what she'll be known as

liliputlady · 23/02/2010 13:12

It's pretty! NNs Lulu and Ella both good too.
I certainly wouldn't have made the connection with the clothes label.

ChickenInABasket · 23/02/2010 12:44

It's really nice and very cool. I have heard of Luella the fashion designer but would never think you'd chosen the name just because of that. I'm sure there are little Viviennes and Stellas running round who are not named after fashion designers either!

Doozie · 23/02/2010 12:26

I went to a school with a Luella and have good thoughts about the name as she was a bit of an all round star.

I had it on my list but DH objected, he thought it was a bit of a cow girls name.

ihaveaheadache · 23/02/2010 11:43

What are you lot like! The 'Luella' label has ceased trading due to the recession. Naming a child after a label is not my thing, my friends and family know that, not my style at all!

I just liked the sound of the name. I do know someone with a niece named Luella so was kind of thinking of her to be honest.

You haven't put me off yet!

Possibly. Up to the OP to hazard a guess.
