if no can you please tell me why you dont like it.

not going to get huffy just like to hear why people dont like a name.

i.e if its because the annoying snotty nose lid down the road is called that it wont be a problem for me

Love it, was almost ds's name, it does make me think of Kings of Leon first, (but thats no bad thing!) DEF not chavvy Shock

AKMD · 23/02/2011 12:58

I love this name and would use it (if DH would let me!) if DS ever gets a brother.

growing3rdbump · 23/02/2011 09:43

I agree Caleb isn't a chav name - the one I know definitely isn't a chav!

babyapplejack · 22/02/2011 17:12

It isn't a chav name, I disagree with those who have said that. I thought it was posh!

I know one Caleb and he is very posh.

However...I don't like the name at all. It has "baddie/villian" connotations IMO.

FourFortyFour · 22/02/2011 17:11

My best friend at school had a brother called Caleb. He wasn't very nice to her Sad. She was lovely and I still think of her.

growing3rdbump · 22/02/2011 17:10

I like it. I know a Caleb.

OliveMalay · 22/02/2011 17:08

It's a rather clunky name.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 22/02/2011 17:07

I like it, but it does remind me of that American tv show where the son of the devil was called Caleb. It doesn't work in my Essex accent for some reason.

trudibleakley · 22/02/2011 17:03

a definate yes

Littlepurpleprincess · 24/02/2010 20:14

My DS is Caleb. We wanted something very old and timeless (ie, not chavvy!) but also not in-keeping with the whole 'william and George' grandad name thing that's going on, something different. Amyway it turns out it's really popular all of a sudden. Bugger. Still I love it. It means bold, and his middle name Frederick means 'quiet ruler' and I quite like the sound of my son gowing to be a bold but quite ruler. lol.

I also quite like that it's hard to say. People say Calib instead so I find it ammusing when they have to put in this little extra effort to say EB. I supoose I have an odd sense of humour.....

I know a couple people who have given up completely and call him Callum which I think is just plain rude. It's not THAT hard to say.

He is not a trouble maker either. He is a total softie, but I know I'm biased.

Have I over thought this?

When I was in hospital, a couple days after he was born a nurse asked me his name and when I told her she said "OH I've never heard THAT before" and looked cross, I mean like ANGRY. It was very odd. I think she thought I was just being a stupid teen mum and giving him a wierd name for extra chav appeal, tis not my fault she knows nothing of history, it's a very old name.

Reminds me of Caleban, so I would expect a Caleb to be mean and troublemaking.

I also find the -eb ending rather clumsy.

But I don't think it's chavvy...

birdofthenorth · 23/02/2010 09:43

I think it's gorgeous.

Doesn't remind me of Jayden/ Kayden or similar made up modern names at all, it's Hebrew and timeless!

ChynaDoll2006 · 23/02/2010 08:57

I don't like the sound -leb on the end.

ThatVikRinA22 · 22/02/2010 23:12

no. it doesnt mean dog

www.babyhold.com/list/Hebrew_Baby_Names/Caleb/details/see here]]

my DH is in his 40's and like i say it was his grandfathers name - really cant see how anyone can say this name will "date"?? the name Caleb is as old as the hills. like my dh.

ellesabe · 22/02/2010 22:17

Doesn't it mean 'dog' in Hebrew?

completelyshotpelvicfloor · 22/02/2010 21:55

It's a no from me. It's in vogue at the moment and I think that it will date badly - will be obvious that he was born in 2010.

eastendmummy · 22/02/2010 21:49

It doesn't sound bad boy to me at all either although as our ds is named after his great, great grandfather then it never had any of those connotations when we chose it. Also ds is the least bad boy child you could ever meet so he's not living up to that perception at all!

If you really like it, then go for it. It's not weird or so unusual and it's easy to spell which for me was a big thing as I've spent the last 30 years correcting people's spelling of my name and it drives me bloody nuts!

Maria2007loveshersleep · 22/02/2010 21:35

I see why people think it sounds modern, even though its an old Hebrew name. It does have that trendy American-teenage-boy feel to it. However, despite all that, I really really like it.

Why do people think it brings up a bad boy image though? It doesn't to me at all.

PearlyDewdrop · 22/02/2010 21:16

Cayleb is a great name, people are so scared these days of anything that isn't a single syllable, the pet name trend surely has to end soon. Why does everybody want to call their kids names you'd give cats or goats?

fuzzywuzzy · 22/02/2010 21:08

It reminds me of a tv series, american gothic, possibly why it I don't like it terribly!!!!

utterly irrational but there we are.

purplefish · 22/02/2010 20:56

How on earth could Caleb be seen as being chavvy??!! It is a Hebrew name and it is so lovely! How could it be possibly compared with names like Wayne???

DS is called Caleb and he is NOT a bad boy, he is very sweet and lovely!
