I wouldn't know if male or female

WetAugust · 15/03/2012 23:26

Auberon as an alternative?

TheUncannyValley · 15/03/2012 21:13

A zombie thread is a thread which has been resurrected after a long time. This thread is from 2010.
It's very annoying when people bump threads from years ago rather than starting a new one.

PercyFilth · 15/03/2012 21:07

Nice. My dad had a friend called Aubrey, who was neither posh nor camp. I never met anyone else of that name.

justlemonade · 15/03/2012 21:01

I love it! I know 2 Aubreys - they are very posh mind.

rachel234 · 15/03/2012 14:17

Zombie thread Confused...??

TheUncannyValley · 15/03/2012 14:09

Yet another Zombie thread.

rachel234 · 15/03/2012 13:48

I like Aubrey. And I don't at all associate it with Audrey - it has a different, stronger feel to it imo.

babyblabber · 15/03/2012 13:34

i think it's a gorgeous name. have never heard of it as a boy's name and it's much prettier than audrey.

nizlopi · 15/03/2012 13:32

hate it hate it hate it.

Sorry :(

Sophiesmummie · 15/03/2012 13:28

I quite like Aubrey, and don't know any, so don't have any associations.

EdithWeston · 15/03/2012 13:18

Aubrey is a variant of Oberon/Auberon, and is traditionally a male name in Europe.

Audrey has a strong association in UK with the long standing (and still current) character in Coronation Street.

birdofthenorth · 15/03/2012 13:14

I like it. DH said it sounded Au-ful.

Aworryingtrend · 15/03/2012 12:52

I LOVE the name Aubrey and wish I had the confidence to use it. However as our surname is double-baralleled but we are not remotely posh and live very ordinary lives I fear it would come across as trying too hard.

candytuft63 · 13/03/2012 17:15

I have a relative with this name.
He is very, very camp.

It suits him !

Just saying.

squoosh · 13/03/2012 17:12

I see it as a veh, veh posh name.

Unless you're in America and it's been turned into a girls name! This has happened with Rory too.

Craziness.

rachel1970 · 13/03/2012 16:56

I like Aubrey. Don't know any, so it doesn't have any (posh or otherwise) associations. You make of your name what YOU are anyway.

duchesse · 13/03/2012 16:28

My grandfather was Aubrey and he wasn't especially posh. I think it was a relatively common name in the early 20th c.

CecilyP · 13/03/2012 16:27

It does sound very posh. I don't think it matters that it sounds like Audrey as most Audreys are in their 70s and 80s now.

actuallymynameis did you go to school with my OH?

He suffered for a long time but now he is far to big and scarey looking for anyone to even mention his name!

dizietsma · 22/02/2010 20:58

You are absolutely not allowed to use this name! [irrational emoticon] It is my future sons name and I chose it because I expected him to be the only Aubrey under the age of 70 in the English speaking world, no-one here likes it so let weirdos like me use it!

LetThereBeRock · 22/02/2010 20:04

Yes he'll spend much of his life saying no it's AuBrey not Audrey.

pointysayhiphip · 22/02/2010 19:20

yes, is most certainly too much like Audrey

MomBombadil · 22/02/2010 19:05
