Here's some combinations I'm pondering on; any opinions would be great. I'm into multiple middle names, as you can see...

Boy Combos:

Atticus Farrow Artan Remus
Atticus Larkin Aubrey More
Atticus Farrow Artan Boone
Atticus Aubrey Larkin Boone/More.

Girl Combos:
Evelyn Rose Pommeline ("Pommaleen") Noelle
Evelyn Violet Pommeline Noelle.

Thoughts?

Bella32 - Actually with the current combo it'd be ALRM Tin or ALRM Tout, and since my surname is neither your point is irrelevant.

MrsBadger - LOL, Alarm. My surname begins with O.

With that many middle names you may get a very good initial-based nickname - what letter does your surname start with?

Or use Atticus Larkin Artan Remus More and call him Alarm

Actually Atticus Larkin could easily be Ally.

My sons have lots of middle names. Please note that when filling in forms you may start to deeply regret so many, as they never fit into the space provided...

If your surname's Tin or Tout you'd have:

AFAR Tin

or

AFAR Tout

Whichever you prefer

Larkin is an interesting choice. He was a fine poet but came over as a rather sad man. Racist and misogynistic yes. And the lines of his which come most readily to mind are

They fuck you up your mum and dad
They may not mean to but they do
They fill you with the faults they had
And add a few more just for you.

Bumperlicious - I've narrowed them down now Evie was actually an original favourite of mine, so I'm not exactly striving for every name to be totally original.

janeite - I suspect this is what would happen if I go with Atticus. I have a friend whose initials spell B.O.B, so she's been Bob for as long as I can remember. Her parents still insist on Becky though

Re: nicknames. I tried 'setting' dd2's nickname before she was born. It didn't work! Everybody calls her a nn that I personally don't like - but she likes it, so I have to live with it.

They are a bit much in combination, though some of the names on their own are quite nice. I like Atticus, Aubrey, Larkin, Evelyn, Rose and Noelle.

Really dislike Pommeline, Boone and Artan.

You are aware that Eve/Evie is a very popular name at the moment? I only ask because you seem to favour unusual names.

Atticus is quite difficult to NN isn't it?! (still love the name though).

NNs don't have to relate directly to the name though. My mate Rachel is Rat for example. DS currently gets affectionately called Squidget and Monkey Boy quite a lot at the moment! He is only a baby though and I don't expect to be calling him Squidget when he goes to school!

Even if you can't think of a NN for Atticus now, once you get to know him I'm sure one will emerge.

HTH - or is it just an elaborate excuse because you've stumped me?!

AG - Hahah. I didn't mean to sound rude, it's just responses have been mostly along the lines of "WTF". I think I will have to make people say Atticus.

If you like Atticus (and why not), insist on your child being called Atticus. I think nicknames should develop naturally, otherwise why bother with the full version. I agree it is irritating when people can't be bothered to utter a whole extra syllable - it's equally irritating when they take your perfectly good one syllable name and tag two more on to it!

On the order of names, I can't see it matters vastly - none is particularly more euphonious than another, and I can't see any rude words/acronyms in the initials - unless your surname is Ess, in which case, I suppose your DS might become ARMLEss...

Thanks for the help. Ticky is a bit weird and Ticker's like a heart, right? It's just I know a lot of people tend to use NN instead of their actual names for some reason, and I don't want him to end up with something awful so I thought it would be best to set his NN before anyone else can.

Atticus could become Ticky or Ticker, but Atticus isn't that long so you could insist on the full version if you liked

NFI - Yes I did, did I sound surprised? I'm not. This isn't some kind of covert operation to test the limits of MN. Peck reminds me of pecking, so that's a no-no.

LTBR, Avenging Gerbil, Gemma - I don't care at this point. If you or anyone has some more helpful criticism as to the order (which currently stands as Atticus Larkin Remus More) or some advice as to a NN for Atticus (Arty?), then that would be productive. Pomeline now has one M, just so we're clear.

Haven't read the whole thread, sorry.

Both my parents have 3 middle names, as do my brother and I. It's not THAT unusual. My brother's 2nd middle name is Jose because we are 1/32nd Mexican and my dad thought it was funny , it goes beautifully with his very traditionally English first name and surname!

I like Atticus, Farrow and Aubrey. How about Peck?

Also like Evelyn, Rose and Pommeline - Noelle is an Aussie soapstar to me, sorry. How about Evangeline?

I do think though, OP, that you knew precisely the sort of reaction you were going to get.

Atticus reminds me of the clothing brand (sorry) Evelyn Rose is pretty but Pommeline sounds ridiculous (again sorry).

At the end of the day though they're your kids and it's up to you what you call them.
