... Coco Chanel [surname]

That's firstname - Coco, middlename - Chanel.

Is it just me, or is that truly dreadful?

it's certain to give her personality problems being compared to Coco Chanel her whole life. Poor kid.

meadowlarks · 23/02/2010 18:59

I have a friend called Chanel...Westwood

Vivia · 23/02/2010 17:15

Bet the parents think it's dead classy to name their daughter 'Coco Chanel'. Coco isn't a name, it's a nickname! It's thoroughly try-hard and risks looking 'chavvy' (don't flame me I'm just saying!)

But I love the reason for Courtney Cox's daughter's name.

houseworkhater · 21/02/2010 22:59

Lol at Maisie's post.

It's a bit too pretentious for my liking, like calling a child David Beckham ...surname. and so on.

heQet · 21/02/2010 19:23

That's a bloody good point Maisie.

Exclusive in Shit! magazine - Photos of 'models' Katie Price and Coco Chanel Smith, coming out of a nightclub at 3am and falling into a taxi ...

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 21/02/2010 19:19

Ahh, but the parents may prefer the Alternative Professions Test

"And the winner of Big Brother is Coco Chanel Smith"

"And the winner of the Brit awards for best newcomer is Coco Chanel Smith"

"Coco Chanel Smith, socialite, and John-Terry Cole who plays midfield for Tottenham, announced their engagement today after meeting 6 weeks ago in a nightclub"

"Would you Snog, Marry or Avoid the glamour model Coco Chanel Smith?"

If it sounds good in those sentences, you may be quite happy to saddle your child with it

QOD · 21/02/2010 19:15

but we are used to "Tulip Musinder" and Beakie someone too!

heQet · 21/02/2010 19:12

I think when choosing a name, you should do the Professions Test.

So you say each of the following -

"hello, I am your doctor, my name is Coco Chanel Smith"

"Hello class, please sit down, I am your teacher, my name is Coco Chanel Smith."

"This is the news at 10 o'clock, with me, Coco Chanel Smith..."

"I would like to introduce you to our chief physicist, Coco Chanel Smith"

and

"The country has spoken, the Lib Dems have won, our new prime minister is Coco Chanel Smith"

If it sounds stupid in those sentences, it's too stupid a name to saddle your child with

DitaVonCheese · 21/02/2010 19:11

It is actually better than Coco-Chanel [surname] though, give them credit for that.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 21/02/2010 19:11

Bit of a thread hijack, but DS and I heard a boy called Jinx being shouted at by his mother to "commmmmme 'eeeere" today. Even DS was a bit

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 21/02/2010 19:09

Coco is a bit like Pixie - fine until you're about 22, and then it's kind of hard to take seriously in a grown, professional woman. A bit like Dr Pixie in Embarrassing Bodies, who just makes my teeth hurt.

nannynobnobs · 21/02/2010 19:05

Courtney Cox's daughter Coco is named after her mother, also called Courtney but was always called 'Mama Coco' to Courtney's friends.
Coco Chanel is a bit mad. Like the guy with the surname Walker who called his son Luke Sky. However a tiny bit of me thought that was ace

thereyet · 21/02/2010 18:14

Chavtastic, poor girl.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 21/02/2010 13:23

Jo Whiley has a Coco Lux I think.

She can at least pretend the Chanel does not exist.

cathcat · 21/02/2010 12:34

Very odd to have a person's name as their child's first name and second name.
What shall they pick for next DCs?
Vivenne Westwood (surname)
John Rocha (surname)

skihorse · 21/02/2010 12:27

Lovely. My dog is called Coco.

LynetteScavo · 21/02/2010 11:55

Coco is a great name for any femail.

Chanel is a bit But then it's a middle name, so so what.

seeker · 21/02/2010 11:52

Coco is fine for a nickname. It's no name for a grown woman!

DitaVonCheese · 21/02/2010 11:50

Are people missing the fact that it's already someone's name - like Giorgio Armani [surname] or Vivienne Westwood [surname]?

I like Coco as a nn, not sure it works for a grown up (or not round here, anyway ).

Naming your child after someone is a bit of a weird homage unless you're a fashion designer yourself or something.

MaggieMaeve · 19/02/2010 23:00

Coco is becoming mainstream !

Channel as well?!

scottishmummy · 19/02/2010 22:41

friend has chosen.so you smile say nowt.

Thissideofchannel · 19/02/2010 22:31

No, I don't think that it is 'truly dreadful' .

I think Coco is quite sweet for a girl and certainly more interesting than all the Ellies, Evas and Graces around these days.

steph1512 · 19/02/2010 21:47

the first thing that popped into my mind was chanel tha perfume have a sent called coco!!

mamazon · 19/02/2010 20:46

i think that i would have named her something like Claire/Collette/whatever and then used Coco as the nickname.

mii · 19/02/2010 20:42

isn't one of the radio1 presenters DD's called coco

makes me think of clown tbh
